NO I always include the sand and buff since i get trash like I do.. If I could keep it clean I would not sweat buffing it, but you already know the gig there

The engine bay is only going to get 1 coat of clear.. and trust me I know first hand thats more than the factory does 😉 ..

Jambs are getting 2 coats

Exterior is getting 3 coats ( only to ensure enough mils after the buff )

have ran the idea thru my head of 1 coating the jambs,. but I have never done that.. well I have never 1 coated anything but then again Im not doing a muscle car either 😛

Wonder what ole Bondo would do :exci :rofl
Bondo would use his 1k lacquer cut in clear on the jambs :rofl
you can drive the car up here and use my booth if you want. wont have to worry about buffing it then 😉

Update..

I had to take the family camping this weekend and could not find a way out of it.. So that killed getting the car into paint this weekend..

I did manage to get the engine bay and body sealed.. the hood body work finalized and now I need to prep the small parts like door handles, scoops/ vents etc..
The bumpers also need final scuffing.. between the letters, around all the edges and any nicks fixed…. Deck lid needs underside scuffed and its ready to shoot..

The owner called me and wants me to repair some rust i found on the body where the rear bumper mounts.. That will slow thins down as well..

Just a few pics.. I put the fenders back on after the epoxy had dried for more room in the garage… They will get pulled when I spray it in color and clear

Would have gotten more done today, but when I came for a bathroom break my wife was at her breaking point with the kids.. Once she started to leak from her eyes I thought maybe I should stay inside and help her instead :cens Always something to stop me from working out in the garage :wak

Nice progress! How many hours will you have into this?

I’d guess around 150 hours minimum when it’s all done.

April 7, 2009 at 8:16 pm #13855

If he gets it in 150 he’s kicking some serious butt!
still $3000 job 150 hours = $20 bucks an hour not bad but he has materials coming out of that too, Materials that have to be replaced so wages come down even more.

A gallon of that yellow paint cost as much as red…ouch!

I hope you get back in there and shoot your paint while you are still within your window on the epoxy, or you are in for a lot of scuffing:silly:

Looking good, man I hope a few jobs like this one roll my way soon. Things have been really dragging for me the last few weeks.

Update

I shot the body in 2k since I had numerous places on each panel that had body work.. I will post up some pics either later which its already 1 am here, or in the morning when i am about to fall over asleep… :rofl

I also shot the hood in epoxy as well as all the little misc parts, like door handles, fuel door etc etc..

I need a garage.. Doing something like this in here just plain sucks :cens … I miss my last house and my garage I had there :S

What is the window for Epoxy? I always thought the longer you let Epoxy Sit, especially in the sun, the better. Wouldn’t there be less shrinking after laying down color?

anywhere from 24hrs to 1 week (someone told me dupont has one with a 1 week window, don’t know for sure). The window is just for wet-on-wet application, their would be less shrinking if you let it cure first…but then you’d have to scuff/sand.

Update:

Been a little bit since I updated this thread.. Been busy around here with life as usual.. Found rust in the rear that the customer wanted repaired, so that has taken away from my time, not to mention the weather has not been all that cooperative with me.. Since I work in such a small space, I need to push the car out to do small parts as well work on things like the bumpers etc.. So when it rains for a few days, it all but kills my time in the garage..

The 2k for this job.. This gallon went fast even mixed at 4:1:1… I had to buy another gallon for the rest of the ride and next round for the hood.. Hard to beat this primer for the cost in my opinion

Everything has already been sanded and is ready for paint.. Including the engine bay.. Bumpers still have edges, corners etc. that need a scotch brite pad took to them..

My problem besides family has been the hood.. I made the body line all the way down it, out of matte and resin.. but have struggled getting it just perfect.. I have sanded down the the matte twice now, and while my wife thinks it looks fine, I can see at just the right angle that its off just a tad.. Only about a 2 or 3 inch section has been giving me fits.. the rest of it is just perfect.. Its about 4 inches up from the bottom..

Took some pics of the various blocks I have been using, but plan on putting some G2 on this area.. Think its my only option since I WILL NOT PUT FILLER ON SMC UNLESS IT HAS EPOXY ON IT FIRST!!!!! If I could skim that trouble area, I think it would not be an issue, but I wont with regular filler.. Been burnt doing that and just wont risk it
