I certainly didn’t mean any offend anybody or step on any toes. Sorry bout that Doright. I said “All kidding aside…they’re right.” And you are correct. Top notch equipment is worth every penny.

well i get the sanding now i just need paint
    primer/sealer/base/clear

now for the supplies and remember i know the more you pay the better the product but more than likely I am only going to be painting my truck and that is it so i don’t want to spend $1000 dollars to use something once.
    i have a compressor its a :
    Craftsman
    150 PSI
    6HP max – 2HP running – 33 Gal
    single cylinder/oil free
    air delivery:
    8.6 scfm at 40 PSI
    6.4 scfm at 80 PSI

    I was thinking this gun

and do i need anything else with the compressor?

Thanks for the help so far

and do i need anything else with the compressor?

paint some thing with your system …. your garage door or an old hood …… It’ll help give you a prespective on what your dealing with ….. ventilation is a big issue along with the compressor :pcorn:

    PaintNfool No problems here! LOL!

    guitarplayer3y
Your plan for that compressor is a bad one!
Do what Stone says get and OLD hood from a junk yard doesn’t matter if its dented or not and try sanding it out with that baby air compressor, You will quickly learn what I’m talking about. You will also probably burn it up before you finish sanding out the whole truck, those little toys just are not meant for continuous running.
Besides that most of your DA’s are air hogs 12 cfm or more any you buy for less than 150 are going to be at least 15-18 cfm.
All of Devillbiss’s guns are air hogs too!

Then when you try to paint with it it gets even worse the Pressure fluctuations every time it kicks on youll have to stop spraying and wait for it to catch up. that’s OK if your not in a hurry but it will drive you crazy! as youll spray for about 30 seconds and then have to stop and wait for it to catch up and stop running again.

Just some things to think about I’m not saying it cant be done not at all it would drive me out of my frigging mind is all ok? Try buying the biggest one you can first time check out Craigs list youl be glad you did.

Here’s a thread a guy did with nothing but hard work and determination with the very basic stuff, Bondo also did his Dart with a tiny compressor too I think years ago.

ok I’m not planning to get that compressor that is the compressor i have and it works great for us we have had it about 3 years and we use the heck out of it a lot running it about 6 to 7 hours grinding but i someone said something about i need to get a dryer or something whats a good one that don’t cost much i know the more money you spend the better but im really only painting my truck and like i said before i do want to spend $1000 oh something that i will use once

Im not planning on using a grinder i do my sanding with a block and hand

and for what my conditions are by using my garage with plastic put up and not great but ok ventilation what
a good primer i should use
    a good sealer be
a good base color i was planing on using this one http://www.paintforcars.com/aep_metblack.html
    a good clear coat

if my metallic black is good it would be cool to get the rest of the paint at that site

I don’t have a lot of money to spend on this and so please show me cheap but good stuff and i don’t me the cheapest but the good stuff that isn’t that much

I would stick with urethane basecoat instead of enamel. Enamel can be a real pain in the arse. It looked like they had that same color in a urethane bc/cc kit. They also have a urethane 2k high build primer surfacer. Most of the cheaper surfacers I’ve delt with sand about as good as concrete but they will get you by. Then they also had a DTM epoxy primer/sealer. Should work as a good sealer for ya. Get the darkest one you can. Cheap bc is normally piss thin and won’t cover very well so the dark sealer should help with that problem. I have used some of the 5-star clears and they’re not too bad. You can colorsand and buff them so it will look good. All of this stuff looks to be pretty budget friendly. It should last for awhile. Never know with cheap paint…could look good forever or just a year or two. Kinda risky with all the work you’re talking about doing.

I have been following this thread for a bit.. It really sounds to me that you dont have the right equipment for the job, that compressor will not get the job done unless you paint one panel at a time.. And with the color you want to do that will not work.. I would stay away from black, if you bodywork isnt perfect it will show up big time.. I would say on the cheap you will be looking at 500 in materials.. Thats a big job, plan on spending many hours out in the garage!

    paintnfool
so you say to go urethane ok
do you think i should stay with that site or do you thing i should go use different paint brand

    September 5, 2009 at 9:25 pm #15689

I don’t know what if any paint stores are in your area but I would stay with a local paint dealer. All of the dealers around here carry several different lines of paint.

well i live in a really small town so we have nothing but i was planning on getting my paint online along with everything else

    September 7, 2009 at 6:08 pm #15779

A Few months ago I was interested in using that same Paint Brand Trinity 1945 Till I tried calling them to place an order and ask a few questions You cant speak to a real person without playing phone tag for a week at a time.

And forget asking questions about the paint itself like Paint gun tip suggestions, air pressure’s, compatibility with other products etc…

Eastwood has a heck of a sale on a complete every thing you need to paint your car deal this month, includes every thing even some sandpaper masking tape even includes painters overalls .
They even have there super low cfm paint gun for sale this month!

thanks doright but should i go with the that paint cause the site you should be doesn’t have metallic black or i didn’t find it
so whats a good site to get metallic black

    September 8, 2009 at 7:10 am #15790

They have black all kinds of Black even Metallic Black just call them they can tell you what page to pull up to preview the stuff.
Keep in mind that’s cheap stuff comparable to Trinity 1945 stuff probably wont have very good coverage with it like the Trinity. I dont know though never used the stuff its just cheap paint I would stay away from it.

SPI sells really good stuff primers and clears etc no colors any more very good products and very affordable too!
I am going to be selling the stuff sooner or latter more than likely.
    http://www.southernpolyurethanes.com/homepage.htm

If you want good cheap paint look for DuPont or Matrix Both have very expensive colors and some very affordable ones too! you just have to play with the chips and codes to find a color you like at a price you can live with.
It takes time and patience from you and your paint dealer though youll be having him pull the codes on a bunch of different ones out of the computer might want to take and bring them a box of Doughnuts.

I spent a couple hours up at my Matrix dealer and came up with a Bunch of colors at a 110 a gal.
