I want to thank the members of this board (especially Andy T)for helping me choose a spray gun. I live in California and the USA forum with Hub is closed to new registration. I’m a High School art teacher and an artist. I’ve sprayed a few cars and a grand piano with automotive Urethane using my older Iwata lph400 gun, not the newer lv version. I got a crash course in sanding down the Urethane orange peel and sanding back up to 2500 grit. I’m retiring from teaching and I want to start restoring classic pianos and furniture with a few cars now and then. My Iwata was stolen along with many other tools. After reading many forum post here, it seems like the Supernova WS400 Silver 1.3 or 1.4 is a favorite in the UK. My compressor delivers 6.2cfm @90psi and I think the WS400 may require more air than I have. The best place I’ve found to buy Iwata in the US, is MechanicsToolsWarehouse. They gave me a direct number (800-440-0282) to Iwata. I got a lot more great info there. The Iwata rep said the LS400H gun is build like a conventional WS400 but it is compliant. It still uses more air than a LS400. I finally ordered a LS400 1.4 at a great price. I’ll post my experiences after I use it.

I hope you enjoy your new gun and I think the furniture restoration business is a wonderful option. Good luck to you!!!

:p Thank you Kunena. Is that name Hawaiian? We lived on Kawai in 1991. I’ve learned so much from the board and others. About 4 years ago when I bought my lph400 at a local body shop, the sales person had nothing to say but try it out and experiment. I used to spray lots of cabinets and custom furniture with my old Binks siphon gun using Fuller lacquer, my favorite. I was holding my Iwata out at the same distance as my Binks and I was getting lots of over spray. Forums are great places for people to help each other and share good tips. Now, I’m also ready to paint the side of my Tacoma and the back of my Prius.
I only search for a list of old American built furniture on Craig’s List such as Ethan Allen, Stanley, Lexington etc. That stuff is so much better than the new Chinese furniture. After I refinish it is better than about anything new. Nice digital pics linked to PhotoBucket really help the sale. Actually, as a hobby, a good auto body painter could fill his house with very nice furniture. I got a Yamaha Grand Piano for $350 and a whole set of Ethan Allen bedroom furniture with Ar-moire for $440. Both just needed some gluing staining and finishing. I’ll post before and after pics later.

    Hiya,

Yes, get some pictures up when you can. We all love pics 🙂

And you’re right, any of the guns you mention will require a lot more air than you currently have.

I got a 60 gal Campbell Hausfeld comressor that delivers 10.2 cfp @90lbs. I rigged up my garage with 3/4″ galvanized pipe according to some design layouts. I almost got a two stage, but I think this will be ok for occasional use. The LS400 requires less air than the WS400. I am anxious to get started.
