December 7, 2009 at 11:44 pm #17591Can you only paint black?
:lol1 Just kidding of course. Stunning work, and welcome aboard :welc
Thanks guys… as for the materials used, I used Omni base
with European CC as that’s what the owner picked out at local
paint supplier. After going back to them and talking about
the paint materials I picked up they said that the clear
doesn’t have any or I should say barely have any UV protection.
I was pretty surprised that they or anyone for that matter would
sell crap like that. Good thing all the cars I painted are
kept in doors and hardly driven. They should be okay. :unsure:Next time I will pick up better quality materials.
I picked up a spray gun from them called StartingLine.
It came with two guns and a case with a few cleaning tools.Maybe if I am lucky, I can win the Tekna system. :exci
As for the cut and buff… I used a waterbug sander with 1000 and then 1500 very lightly and I hand sand all the tight area’s.
I polish it with a white wool pad using 3M compound,
then I use edge 2000 Wave foam pad with 3M swirl remover,
then follow it up with a 3M blue pad 3M ultrafine #3 to
totally remove any scratches or swirls. If you use Micro fiber towels you wont see any
scratches or marks at all in the reflection of the paint. This painting stuff is all new to me as I am really trying
to learn my way through it.The 62 Impala was the first car I painted then the 28 and
69 camaro.I am about to paint a long bed for my inlaws pickup that will be grey. That will be a nice change since everyone wants black.
welcome, i am also from san diego and just joined not to long ago but this seems to be my very first post!. where locally do you get your products? tcp global? i’ve got most of my stuff from kearny mesa auto paint supplies, memo is a really nice fellow and helped me out a lot with the painting questions as i am fairly new as well.
Stone, think what you want… what you see are the first cars I have painted, and that was about 2 to 3 months ago. I have nothing to prove by lying about this. Sorry you feel like that.
Auto_guy, I bought my products from a place called Meza Paint. Located in Escondido on Washington ave. 760-432-0797

Sorry you feel like that.[/quote]I am sure stone is just paying you a compliment The cars look fantastic for a New painter especially for Black cars!
On a side note The camera is very forgiving I am sure if we were there we could pic it apart for imperfections couldn’t we?
You being the painter know were all the little imperfections are and I am sure you have a bad spot or two dont you?sorry Stone. I couldn’t tell. 🙂 No Hard feelings. Just don’t dump paint on my head. 😛
DoRight, you are right, the 62 Impala was my first car I’ve done 3 months ago and there are a few little ripples being its black you can see them if you look hard down the side but standing back with out trying to look for them it looks really cool. The finish is like a mirror. I take a lot of time trying to make these cars look as good as they can get. I work under 3 sodium lights that shows everything.
The 28 roadster was my second car and it was nice to begin with, so it came out very good. It was purple before.
The 69 Camaro belongs to my good long time friend and that car came out the nicest. I knew he was going to take it to the Friday night cruise and show it. There is about 300 cars that go every week. So, I was hoping that i could pick up a few restoration for some side cash.
