As usual,I put the mule before the wagon and started posting in the forum before seeing this intro topic.
I live inSOUTHERN Il and have been at the painting game on and off since I graduated a 2 yr,6 hr per day HS sponsored auto body course in ’83 (yes,I do have dinosaur crap on my boots)
I have either built and/or painted untold countless custom semi trucks, toter trucks(duallys set up for flashy boats or horse trailers),pickups,cars,hot/rat rods, bikes, boats, dragsters, trailers, heavy equipment in my lifetime as either a hobby or for $$.
I spent 2 yrs working for a high volume car lot as their body and paint stooge back in the mid 80’s where I learned to do quick, out the door shoddy work and I ended up despising it.I then got into another trade that allowed me to have my cake and eat it too…I worked it thru the day to make money to be able to do only what I wanted to do or was interesting for me to do in my own shop and send the other customers to shops who were all about volume.
I have been out of the game as a player (except in friends shops as a hobby) for quite a few years and have now jumped back in slightly by buying my own shop again this past month..I intend on custom welding and fab work and reselling equip/tractors to pay the shop bills(have two utility companies lined up to send me their broken crap already) and then concentrate on bass boat restoration/repair and custom boat toter pickups and other things interesting, shiny and really “flakey”:woohoo: ….I’m not sure if I’ll be taking to many customers on yet or if I’m just going to buy the boats and trucks,do the work and then craigslist them when I’m done….I’ll see what the future brings and play it by ear.
I’m here to learn some new tricks from you guys/gals and help out with some old ones if I can.

Thank you guys…I really do hope to learn some things here as so much has advanced in paint tech in the last 8-10 years.
Things that used to be hard like prism efx, flake, crystal, marblizers and things of that nature are now easier due to better quality (and actually cheaper if you can believe that) products that are out now and much better techniques that the younger guys have developed.
I’m looking at some newer mid priced guns and have read the threads on here for everyone’s opinion and that has helped already….I guess my Binks #7 ain’t the best rig around anymore.j/k:p
As for posting pics..I have to get this shop up and outfitted by the end of Jan. and then get a few tractors and pieces of equip ready to put on my lot for sale or I’m going to be so broke I’ll be eating rocks with no salt….but after that (prob around mid march) I intend to start on a lifted ’97 3 door Z71 that I traded for a month ago and just had the 5.7 vortec top end rebuilt(with some goodies) due to the normal vortec malady of a bad intake gasket. It’s going to be a flaked out bass boat toter on a budget…I am trading for everything other than the paint that goes on this truck(unless someone has some product that they want to swap out for.lol) to show some of the younger guys in my home area that you do not have to finance a truck and then throw a fortune at it to make it sharp if you a willing to do a bit of work and use your head and do a bit of swapping and be creative…I’m going to vid and pic document this thing (including reciepts) from start to finish and will have less money in this thing when completed than a lot of my buddies have wrapped up in just the price of their rims and tires.
It’s U8555 Black and with that for a base, the door is WIDE open.:rock
