hi. really great forum you have here. lots of good info. i’m wondering if i can repair my mazda 3 bumper myself. check out the pic. i’m just a handy man type guy and i’m for sure not an auto body repair expert. is this something i can swing myself with a few tools and some paint or do i have to pay $2,000 to a body shop? i’m pretty sure they would tell me i’d have to have the whole bumper replaced. thanks a lot for any help or ideas.

Well…just about anything can be repaired…

The bumper is brobably cheaper to replace. Have you had an estimate done yet? From the pic, if it is indeed just the bumper, there is no way a shop would charge $2000. I would want to see the bumper off, incase there is damage to the re-bar/absorber and possibly the rear body panel. Is the corner of the tailgate damaged at all?

If you really wanted to do it cheaply, you could just take the bumper cover off, heat it up, and work it back into shape. It wont get completely straight and the chips in the paint will still be there, but you wont pay anything to get it to that point.

Yep! Remove the bumper and use a heat gun from the back of the bumper and re-shape it by pushing on it. (not with your hands, lol) check this video out, it’ll help you. thanks to my friend pete!
