Gidday everyone ,
just joined this forum , I’m based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland ,Australia.
Setting up a shop to mainly work on muscle , rods and customs, I’ve built my own positive pressure crossflow booth.
I’ve been interested in paint and body work for a long time, I’m self taught.I would like some advise on a few paint related matters.
* I want to purchase a new base coat , clear coat spray gun but can’t afford a Sata 4000 digital , any suggestions on a more cost effective gun that is still top quality.
* I have a customers car that is ready for paint he wants it painted jet black ( clear over base) i’ve never painted a car black , any tips , it’s a 33 Ford 5 window coupe and the customer wants it to look like glass.
Products used so far on the project are all PPG Deltron.Hope all you top gun painters can help me out .
On another note I’m building a shop truck ( 65 Chevrolet Elcamino ) and I want the body and paint to really pop , I was thinking about candy but I have never used the product before , any help or advise for my shop truck would be good.
Cheers
John

June 24, 2012 at 9:04 pm #37449Welcome to the site :welc my wife has an uncle that lives on the gold coast, you are lucky to live in such a nice place.
Not sure if you can get them down there but the devilbiss tekna or gti pro are a nice gun and reasonably priced.
If I was doing a rod or muscle car black I would do it in single stage wait a day or two then wet sand it with 600 and flow coat it with clear, looks so much deeper that way.
As far as candies go pick one you like and do a let down panel to see how many coats will give you the desired shade. When it comes time to spray the candy they can be tricky, you can’t panel paint you have to walk the side to get even coverage. When the time comes there are many people here who can help you.June 25, 2012 at 1:41 pm #37479Thanks Jayson M ,
I’ve purchased a few products from a company in Santa Barbera TCP Global.
They sell the Debilviss range I’ll check out the price.
I also found a coulpe of videos on the Anest Iwata guns they look real nice but I think they will cost more than the Tekna. Thanks for the advise on the black paint, the customer has already purchased the PPG black base coat and clear top coat.
I have been told that I should be able to get a nice glassy finish by laying down the black base then tack clothing and 2 coats of clear , let it sit for a day or 2 wet sand the clear with 1200 and give it a flow coat or 2.
My PPG rep suggested laying down the black base then 4 to 5 coats of clear let it sit for a few days , then wet sand with Mirka p 2000 Abralon follwed by Mirka p 4000 Abralon then buff .
It sound like about 40 to 60 hours work to doulbe wet sand and 3 stage buff the paintwork .
What do you think would work best using the PPG Products that my guy has supplied.
