Im opening a second location and have a Sikkens jobber and a Nexa jobber wanting to put water in both my shops I have been a Sikkens painter for 18 years and love it but my jobber’s service is horrible and the Nexa jobber is great and offering alot of bells and whistles any sug. would be great
July 7, 2010 at 5:50 am #22446I know nothing about water,,,But I would give the new guy a chance,,It could turn out to be a good thing……….
Would you have to sign a contract first? If so, I would be VERY cautious and take my time. (But Im sure you know that)Most paint manufacturers sell a reasonably good quality product. For the most part I have always valued service first and foremost. Where I live, I would only use PPG or DuPont because of the great service from both the suppliers as well as great service from the manufacturer.
Of course price and product quality are important factors as well.

July 8, 2010 at 5:56 am #22497Really??That surprises me,you should tell both of them to put in a system and try them both and see what ya like best 😉
July 9, 2010 at 8:27 am #22560What issues??I have been spraying autowave for a year and a half in a shop with 2 painters and 16 bodymen,it is fast and works great for us.I’m even an old guy with 23 years experience that didn’t have a hard time with the change :silly:
July 9, 2010 at 8:29 am #22561I’m curious also. I have used Autowave and Cromax. I think Autowave blows Cromax out of the water.
I sprayed Cromax for 8 months (before I moved)and outside of the normal tinting stuff I found it had very few issues.Blowers a must..cause when ya wack all that base on at once it needs it.Otherwise no sand piling, easy to blend,as long as you apply a wet bed,and the convenience of putting on all your base at once.Sikkens on the other hand..does not have a true wet bed.You need to reaplly 666 and begin to reduce or blend out the base.Since it does not have a wetbed, sandpiling begins.
I have sprayed Sikkens for many years..like 8 years of my career..Autobase,Autobase Plus,Lesonal. There water needs some work.July 10, 2010 at 3:23 am #22598So you are saying that your blends are grainy? If that is the case your control/drop coat is to dry.Are you flicking your wrist? How far away are you when you do your blend/control coat? How much are you reducing your base?Have you been to one of the sikkens training centers? The 2 day autowave course is a must, they show you all the tricks to make your life easier.Seriously I don’t have problems at all and blending is effortless.Ryan has sprayed cromax pro for a year and a half before sikkens, and he has very good things to say about it.
No..my blends are generally not grainy. What I have found is that the larger the job the more over spray is in the air and it tends to cling to the units. All water can be reduced with the activator up to 30% with Sikkens this has to happen with tight spots with silver or gold more often then not. Also blendining in some 666 helps.I’m pretty sure my orientation coats are not dry cause it only happens with large jobs, silvers, golds, and hard to cover colours. No problems with tri-coats.
I try to base my opinions on all the systems that I have used..which is a lot.I have rarely seen these sorts of issues.I lived in Kelowna BC for ten years so I have a lot of experiance with high heat as well as dry conditions.
I’m merely sayin that Sikkens needs work. They came out with Autobase Plus..I was one of the first to have it.I said the same thing.I used 90 line..same thing.Spies was the best in solvent..better than any Glasurit,RM,PPG,Dupont,Sherwill the list goes on.- AuthorPosts
