Can anyone provide any advice on the correct application of this color?

    Tinted sealer?
    or
    White or silver base coat?

I plan on applying a few intimidate coats of red pearl to give an slight purple hue.

Probably going with PPG since i have good luck with this particular brand, unless anyone recommends otherwise?

    thanks again.

Dupont recommend use of Value Shade 6 primer. This is darkish grey. This colour already contains Violet tinter so adding extra would shift the flop towards violet while the blue pearl would keep the face more blue. Would be worth spraying out a test card or panel to see if what you have in mind achieves the look you want.

The color of undercoat will depend on what you want the color to do. It will be a poor hiding color so a very light undercoat would mean more coats for coverage and a lighter flip of the color. A closer undercoat will mean quicker hiding and possibly a deeper/darker blue.

Be careful with the red pearl on top. You may find you kind of dirty the face and make it a muddy brownish purple depending on the red pearl used. You could loose some chroma or de-saturate it some. While it would make sense that adding red to blue would give me purple, in is a bit more complex than that, especially when using pearls.

Make a test panel first with different ground coats. Also try with and without pearl to see what you like.

for colors such as this , depending on the job I will mix a tinted milky blue sealer (suggested for most transparent blues), or transfer the color of that into basecoat using the colormap for a ground. With sikkens in Mixit, it usually will suggest a ground coat in their colorbuild book if its a transparent color. I prefer doing it with the basecoat as its better to blend that out than sealer IMO

thanks for all the info guys!
I’ll use a test card to make sure everything looks correct before painting the car.
