okay so i got this 06 Suburban in today that suffered an accident on the left side which was repaired about 6 months ago according to the customer. part of the repair that im performing includes the left front door, so after i get the door ready for filler and air blow the door of dust and the clear just blew completly off in huge peices. looks really odd since the door shows evidence of a complete respray not just a blend area. (the truck is black) what would cause the clear to completely separate from the base coat? the door had no chips or scratches just the edge along the repair that was open.

Bad/Wrong Hardener….blowing the base dry then clearing (not letting flash). That would be my two guess’s.

Bad, or no prep, poor technique with cheap paint. Basically, everything
was done wrong. Dry spraying the base…every corner cut…

Call the owner and have him come by and explain things to him.

In the future, always be suspicious of prior work and don’t offer
a guarantee of any kind; unless original or over your own work.
Gotta 99 integra with a really crappy paint job that i have to work
on with massive/dull orange peel. It’s a quick budget job sop it’s ok…

yeaa i suspected the basecoat as the culprit too, like Jimmo said they probably didnt let it flash properly because the clear is well adhered on the top of the door where it wouldnt blow off. so i sanded the door down and sprayed surfacer on the whole door. i asked the owner when he stopped in where he had it repaired b4 and he said “oh idk the insurance company (progressive) took the car and fixed it for me.” to complicate this job even further the insurance company’s estimate calls for a new aftermarket fender which i purchased and wouldnt fit at all. not even poorly :S

well make sure the owner contacts progressive so you can get properly reimbursed for fixing their failed repair. and if the A/M fender doesnt fit order oem and supplement

Try the non capa fender. Half the price ($65+/-) and better fit.

Had the same issue on this one. It’s 2000 but should fit. Needed some
    minor tweaking still…

the one that came wasnt Capa, i never really believed capa would be any better just because of its little yellow sticker. but i ordered another one this time Capa and if it doesnt fit also im gonna just order oem, real nice slick work tho han

Thanks Mo! This side was repaired and refinished before. Badly done too.
Clear coat failure along the top edges and serious filler on the quarter.
    Something insurance wont pay for…

Capa quality is all over the place. Generally it’s better.

haha thats funny about the keystone fenders, i just got it in, test fitted it b4 the driver left and it fit perfectly its even heavier then the original and came with sound deadening panels.. what a difference that made, so relieved.
