I got another roof project and I am going to ask for advice on how to fix this one.
This car is a Plain Jain 73 Satellite with 318 on the column with bench.
This is my 17 year old kids first car It is not a show car nor will it ever be! and I know he will tear it up in the years to come.
If you look closely at the L/H quarter it has been replaced by previous owner by just over laying it 🙁 and spot welding.
I am in no way going to fix that! I have a 72 Charger Roof I could use but it has some nasty dents in it as the Junk yard picked it up with a Forklift. But It could be fixed. also I could use it as Parts and cut pieces out of it.
I wanted to just do a Nasty fasty Metal all on it or Fiberglass but a bunch of guys jumped me on it on 101 so what do you guy’s think?

I guess it was sitting a little too close to my Sandblasting area, I already have that fender being worked out.
Its getting close now I will get a couple shots of it today when I get back from Vegas.

Well if you really wanna hack it out you could sandblast the roof, weld patches behind each hole, duraglass, skim coat and prime.. I wouldnt mess with cutting that roof off.. Or you could really hack it out and put some duct tape behind each hole and use kitty hair to skim that roof 🙂 Starting to sounds like old bondo 😆 😆 😉

I Thought of that and I am going to put another Vinyl roof cover on it too any way and that will cover a lot of sin’s.

I also thought about spot welding in patches to the back side and then trying my hand at Leading over it, what do you guy’s think about that idea? sure way of getting practice with Lead and a good solid repair too. (I think?)

I just wanted to get every one’s opinions on it before I go a head and chose a way to proceed.
One big thing is cost need to keep it down it’s my kids car, and I dont want to spend squat on it the dang thing isn’t worth very much I think nice ones are going for 4-6 grand right now tops for a sport BB might be around 12 for an original 440 car with the buckets and console. I have one of those too 👿 he wants it bad!
But he is very happy I am working on this one now, and very anxious to get in and drive around with it.

not sure about the duct tape. i would use a high grade aluminum tape 😉 then some kitty hair . level it with some 36 grit. spray 3 good coats of poly primer on it sand and paint.. it’ll be like new one the top is back on 🙂

Buy a non vinyl top donor for 200 bucks and hack the roof off of that…
I know, I know I always have a problem with always doing things right. 😉

I get too tired of fixing stuff that hacks feel the need to destroy. 😆

Well that would be the easy and fast way out anyways…
You could always weld a hundred and thirty patches into it.

I mean whatever works for you. 😆

Well a another roof is kinda out of the question now days as these things are getting hard to find!!!!!!
And when you do its on the other side of the country and shipping is prohibitive!!!!!!!!!!!!
Like I said car ain’t worth much.

What do you guy’s think about the Lead idea?

all that heat. such a big area and you’ve never done it before  . just get the kitty hair out 😉

    March 13, 2009 at 1:46 pm #13301

No doubt, I do a lot of leading. And in that situation… Out of the question…
Especially around rust… tinning butter hates rust. Absolutely hates the stuff… The acids basically don’t do anything to it.
And it wouldn’t stick to it if you begged it to.

    March 13, 2009 at 10:58 pm #13312

Blast it, epoxy it to seal all the mess, then kitty hair the crap out of it bro..

that would be the best in your situation in my humble opinion
