Only the cheap non automotive plastic has this problem, but back in the 80s when plastic was first being used it was an issue. If you use a name brand like norton, carbo, usc or 3m the plastic is marked paint this side.It is a non issue in this day and age. You mask the jambs, cover the vehicle with plastic, cut the plastic where you are painting and tape down the edges,no worries.

you could also cover 24 – 36 inches around your spray area with paper and then plastic the rest and tuck plastic under the paper just for some extra protection. Before i used to have the occasional problem with some paint flaking off of the plastic during the bake cycle, if im rushing I may just use plastic but i usually like to put paper around spray area just so im not painting directly onto the plastic.

like jayson said. Make sure that the side marked “this side up” or “paint this side” is actually facing up. otherwise you will have problems

And again, I’ve never had a problem painting right up to modern plastic, as long as it’s the right way around.

Keep the plastic nice and tight though. It’ll stop it flapping around which will reduce the risk of flaking even further, and it won’t stir up the dust as much either 😉

Yea man no worries, right side up and decent tape you are golden.

However, you can get flaking when unmasking. This can have equally bad results.
