I plan on painting my 69 Camaro this winter and need some advice.
I am not doing a correct restoration so I am not concerned with how GM did it back in 69. I plan on painting the car as a whole.
Do I need to cut in the areas where the windshield, back glass and trunk weather stripping goes or can I paint that when I paint the car?
When I do paint those areas, do I clear coat the area or just base coat and tape it off before I clear the car?Should I remove the doors and paint the jambs? do the jambs get clear coat?
Thanks for any advice
AnonymousDecember 21, 2013 at 3:24 am #45719You’ll have to do the trunk & jambs beforehand, I mean you could do it all at once if you had space and proper parts stands. I can’t recall the one I did but I can’t think of a reason why it would make sense to do the windshield and backglass area before the rest of the body. The Jambs need to have clearcoat on them & you would be wise to remove the doors. If your doing a full restoration the odds are everything should be coming off, post pictures if you can. Its hard to tell what your into exactly.

thanks for the response. I’m doing a full nut and bolt resto…. full 1/4’s, trunk pan, trunk drop offs, floor pan, front sheet metal etc.
December 24, 2013 at 10:05 pm #45728Are you doing a solid or metallic color? You can paint it in pieces for no mask lines or all together after spraying the jambs.Maybe gives us a little more info about your plans and we can fine tune from there.I would love to see pics of your car,I love camaros.
Here are a couple of pics of a 69 I did 5 years ago.

Good looking Z Jason. My plans for this one is a factory appearing paint job. it’s going to be rally green. Looks like I’m going to cut in the jambs, trunk channel, and cowl area then hang the front sheet metal and spray the car as a whole. This will be my second metallic green paint job. 1st was a frost green on my 64 chevy II.
some pics….
rally green for reference
