Okay, I have been working on a 65 FB mustang for a while and I have the body work almost done. The front clip is off and the doors and trunk lid is off also.
I have to paint two GT stripes over the top and the owner wants the car to have pearl in the clear.
should I install the panels and lay out the stripes and dissemble it?
Whats the best and easiest way to paint the stripes? Paint the car solid color first and paint the stripes over it, or paint the stripes first and mask them off and spray the main color?
Details would be appreciated.
Thanks. 😉
January 24, 2010 at 4:55 pm #18881in almost all situations its easiest to mask the positive so spray the stripe color, mask off and shoot the background. spray the stripe color, assemble the car, lay the stripes out and disassemble for the next color.

Spray the stripe and disassemble the car and mask off the stripe and paint the base on the rest?
What about cutting in the jambs? Should I do this first with the solid base and hang the doors after it dries? Then paint the whole car with the front sheet metal on the stands? Is that going to be my best action?
Or should I paint everything off the car including the doors and re-assemble after painting and clearing? My only concern is mounting the doors back on the jamb. It may be hard to align up with out scuffing the door jamb where the hinges are.
