Painters nightmare……

Hey guys I’m new on this forum wanted to say hi to everyone and look for a little help in a problem I just recently started having at work…..fisheye. It started this week I have a white hood, fender and front cover I painted all apart they were brand new panels the hood had so many craters I had to reclear it and the fender only had 2 so I tried to let it slide until I got it outside and it was so deep it casted a dark shadow on the paint. No problems the rest of the week until the last job Friday before I went home I sprayed the entire front end of a honda and only the hood did it. Both jobs were with DCU 2021 clear but different containers I replaced the all the filters in our air dryer and it still gave me problems any help would be very much appreciated
Hey mate, I’d start from scratch, once the job is in the booth ready to go, change your gloves, and degreaser clothes I tend to degrease with both waterbase and solvent degreaser, put on new spray overalls and a new tak rage the panels that are being painted then around the area ie the masking paper or sheets then tak the air line, if you can pre mix you paint and let it settle before you spray 😉 do you wash your hands after eating your lunch and xhange your glove often, little bit of grease from crisps on your lunch can course an after noon :whistle:
Welcome to the forum. I havent been here long either. This site is very helpful. I agree ttwith rikka23. Just thought I’d share about two things here. We had this problem one time and after ruling out everything else had all the shop air lines flushed. Took care of it. Another time the cause turned out to be reasphalting in the neighborhood. First try to deterimine whether it’s airborne or surface contaminants. This aint easy. Good luck. :cheer:
I’ve just been thinking have you tried draining the compressor and the water traps as well 🙂
Guessing it’s an airborne issue if it only happens occasionally
Is anybody cleaning or valeting cars nearby? Ive seen this problem pass outdoors from building to building so if anybody is using any silicone based products nearby it could that that.
Another cause could be something diesel being run in the shop?
Years ago the owner’s son would detail cars while one of us was painting or not. He did not listen until all his supplies and more were tossed in the dumpster. After that he got the message and played in a sandbox elsewhere.
Have you changed your shampoo, laundry cleaner or any other personal hygiene products lately ?
I had a similar problem fish eyes on roofs and hoods, but not or little on the sides. I finally realized that super fine water droplets were coming out of my connection at gun at the hose. So any panals I would lean over to paint would fish eye cause the droplets drop down. On the sides not as bad because droplets down went on the floor. I drain everything before I paint but our air lines are so old I can only do so much. So I tape a small piece of clean rag around were my gun conects and no more fish eye. I know this is not the “proper” way but it got me through till my begging and pleading got me a new moisture trap in my big booth.
deoderants ,deisel cars on start up ,rings on you compressor , solvent base will be fine as it sort of self degreases but clear wont ,this is often a sign your compressor is passing oil
Well I realized that the dodge truck in the work bay next to the paint area was a diesel. I learned early on what certain deodorants any scented hygiene products would produce in the paint booth. And I religiously drain our compressors and run the “recharge” on the air dryer. I think the diesel ruined my last job hopefully everything stays clear I painted 2 jobs today that came out fisheye free I appreciate everyone’s input I’m sure you all know how frustrating these problems can be
my bosses wife came into the booth to give me my check and when she left i noticed tiny little fisheyes starting.long story short i had to respray the car .yes i did get paid to do it again,she wasnt happy but my boss told her to stay away from the booth. :dnc
