I am currently painting a 5 ft tall stripe (any white) around a greyhound bus. The customer does not have an preferences as to what type of paint I use. I figure I will use 5 to 6 gallons of sprayable material. What is the best type of paint to use and where can I get the best price?

Most fleet vehicles use Polyurethane like Imron or Delfleet. Typically single stage or sometimes base clear. Polyurethanes are very hard/durable so they are perfect for fleet. Note to read the tech sheet and keep in mind that most are slow drying (you may want a little accelerator depending on your painting style and shop conditions).

If you want to be more economical you can use a cheap single stage like Nason, Omni, Limco etc. Personally I would go with Imron 5000 Single stage. It isn;t too expensive, its relatively easy to use, dries to a good shine and is very durable when cured.

I Agree with Ben, It will be the best and hold up, PPG makes a basecoat called FBC this is a Delfleet product. I have used it and its just like normal basecoat https://buyat.ppg.com/refinishProductCatalog/ServeFile.ashx?FileID=e376e519-bcc3-4952-af2e-b0cd775ece49

Price is not to bad either

    I agree with the others.
LIMCO Urethane Single Stage. If it’s a solid color I would use this.
Metallics (I don’t recommended it in this application) I would use Base/Clear Dimension.
Will you be prepping bare metal? If so get some etch primer for the aluminum.

There is also an economically priced polyurethane in the light industrial brand that PPG sells cheaper than Omni but much better.

There is Delfleet evolution (their best). Delfleet essential (similar, but a little cheaper) and CPC (comercial performance coating). The CPC is inexpensive and pretty durable.

I would use some Cardinal epoxy and then Cardinal SS white it is a inexpensive polyurethane which sprays nice and is very durable.

Ive been using quite a bit of UTECH 200 acrylic urethane lately for various things,
i think its pretty cheap but i dont know the exact price, the stuff covers pretty well
and sprays nice. not quite as durable as a polyurethane.. definitly cheaper than the imron 5000 though

We have been using u-tech for the last 11 years at our shop. They have 200(urethane) 3.8(polyurethane) 3.5(low voc polyurethane, polybase plus (polyester basecoat with hardener). They have all the factory colors and imron and fleet formulas as well.I have nothing but good things to say about this system. We use it on big rigs, cars etc,it has never let us down. The 3.8 polyurethane single stage is the nicest I have ever used in my career. Our shop uses sikkens on our high dollar jobs, but you would never know utech is such a bargain,no sacrifice in quality what so ever.

i hate to say it but for a cheap paint, kirker urethane ss. its durable and looks ok. i would not recommend it to anyone doing anything really nice but for your application it would be perfect. i think its only about $35 a gallon.

    kirker urethane

    http://www.smartshoppersinc.com/kirker/acrylic-urethanes.html

I’ve used it on my boat and car, it’s held up great.
about $80.00 a gal with activator.
Spray it lightly, it runs like water.
