Do u guys seal the new parts before base or just paint it on with sanded 600grip paper?
September 5, 2012 at 6:16 am #38176Sealer here too, cheap insurance and improves hiding and adhession 😉
September 5, 2012 at 6:27 am #38177When u talk about sealing, r u referring to primer or sealer? sealer goes just before the base color. Right?
sealer (wet on wet) just before base. Primer is just as good and is essentially the same thing, but needs to be sanded before top coating.
Most collision painters prep new parts, apply etch primer to bare metal (or adhesion promoter on bare plastic) then 1-2 coats of sealer, then onto base and clear. All wet on wet.
September 5, 2012 at 4:26 pm #38184I do prepare them also, but did not know that sealer could b use, it makes a lot of sense, it saves the sanding stage. the thing with u guys is that in every posting don’t matter how simple we always learn. Thanks yall very much. 🙂

it wont peel just dont drive it on any gravel roads cuz she will rock chip way easier without any cushion between the e coat an base dont ask me how i know  :whistle:September 6, 2012 at 2:53 am #38199Seal all new parts. refer to your TDS sheets for your paint system. Basing directly over e-coat just plain amounts to hackery
