It works pretty good for plier handles, sticks good and seems to last. Not really sure what else you could do with it though. It took a few applications to get the thickness I wanted and it was simple to use.
February 17, 2013 at 11:01 pm #41441If you’re talking about painting with it, then I have a full car to do at some point in the future. It’s been hard trying to get any decent technical info on gun set up though as most use those airless sprayers.
February 18, 2013 at 1:05 pm #41474I think you’ll need a huge tip, but when I asked the guys at ‘dipmycar.com’ they said it wasn’t worth the hassle…… of course they’re not painters. I would love to try it, myself.
It’s a great cheap, temporary coating. It’s great to give customers a cheap option, and to stay on top of the fad.
February 18, 2013 at 1:06 pm #41475I will add, I would sooner dip my car every year or 2 than ‘clear bra’ my car, if it was brand new and I didn’t intend to keep it indefinitely, or a lease or something. That said, I’m the type of guy to take good care of my stuff and keep it for the long haul.
February 18, 2013 at 9:03 pm #41479Interesting….I never would have thought about painting a car with it.Too bad its air dry and not catalysed to speed up dry times.
February 18, 2013 at 9:31 pm #41480It’s all the rage at the minute Jason, hence me wanting to give it a go. Youtube is full of it.
Spray it on, then peel it off like a wrap next week / month / year when you fancy a different colour.
February 19, 2013 at 7:36 am #41494any i’ve seen the same videos. thought it was cool when they did it. gives a nice semi flat color look.
the last i heard of the stuff is on the bimmer forum, when the guys there wanted to paint the chrome trim, so they could have a fake me out sport version.February 21, 2013 at 12:53 am #41526
If you’re talking about painting with it, then I have a full car to do at some point in the future. There’s a good airless sprayer for around £80 from Argos.
Given that’s so cheap and well-rated for the job I wouldn’t use an air gun, but I’ve spoken to one dude who does wheels etc with a 1.5 HVLP. Probably a bit more controllable than the cumbersome looking airless unit for the small stuff.Check out http://www.matt-pack.co.uk (iirc) for kits, paint etc. they do the same guns in their packs that Argos do.
Yes, I’ve been putting some research into this and I hope to be doing a couple of cars in the coming weeks 😀
February 22, 2013 at 4:42 am #41559Tried an electric gun today, omg I’m glad I didn’t shell out for one!
Now gonna trial air guns for spraying the palstidip.
February 22, 2013 at 6:29 am #41560When I was painting at a rim shop one of the guys used “vinyl paint”. I dont know the brand but he had trouble with it. I think cause he was useing a 1.4 and the coats were to thin and not enough. In the videos it looks like it is sprayed out in a heavier coat. At least after the inital thinner coats. I’m going to try a 1.4 or 1.7. Let you know…….
