I joined awhile ago but have never posted. Most issues or questions are already solved by the time I read the post. :deadhorse Owned shop 26 yrs, painted first car at 13yrs old.

Does anyone here use the above refinish combination? The reason I ask is that I am having an issue with large chips in hoods. By large I mean about as big as a pencil eraser. The chips start out as normal small chips but seem to spread, as in the edge around the chips seam to delaminate and raise up allowing it to grow. It appears the clear, base and sealer are all sticking togrther and chipping down to the e-coat. New panel was da’d with 4-600 washed, degreased (with pre paint cleaner, fast) sealed w 2 coats NCS 2003. It would apear sealer bond is easily broken from e-coat. I know it’s not a cleanliness or flash time issue. Years ago I had an issue with GM bumper covers doing the same thing except it appeared the sealer was sticking to the base and the factory coating and kind of spliting in half???? Determined that sealer wasn’t thick enough(per paint rep). Ever since then everything on the front of vehicle gets 2 coats of sealer.

Hopefully someone has an idea for me. Thanks

I use DC4000 with 3098 hardener for everything, even just a bumper. I have not had any real chipping issues. I’m not spraying DBC though, Im using Aquabase sealers/basecoat. The aquabase sealers have great adhesion, so I’m surprised you are having such an issue with the dbc sealer. My first guess would be not enough film build, but I would think 2 coats of sealer should be plenty.

The NCS sealers are the iso -free sealers. Never have used them, but I never liked the NCS primer. That coud be your issue. Any reason you are using that sealer instead of the DAS sealers?

Yea, Our rep said he’s seen NCS stick to the part and the base and basically split in half. Strongly suggests switching to DAS.
