So I need a couple of opinions, I’m looking to get a new primer gun, but don’t know if to invest in a good primer gun or just some cheap gun, most of you will say go for the cheap but I already did, I bought a $70 gun from Lowes and it already broke on me after only 3 or 4 months, the fan pattern won’t widen. I don’t want to keep spending $70 every 3 months or so, the upside of me buying a good primer gun is ill take better care of it and take extra time to clean it since I know what it’s worth, the down side it’ll be used for primer, so any opinions out there that could help me decide on what I should do. Thanks

I love the 3M accuspray system, but its a slightly larger investment. I used to use a devilbiss starterline gun that held up pretty well, it was around $100.

Two years ago I bought an Iwata AZ3HV-18GC for $97 at PowerToolBox, now $108. Cheapest price I could find. I don’t have any problems with it. I’m not high production and it’s used weekly but not daily. The Accuspray looks attractive.

X2 on the 3M Accuspray system. A little bit for the gun but when we bought it the 3M Rep gave us about a years supply of the tips. This gun has plastic disposable tips and they say to through out after every use but we have been able to clean and get three or four uses out of each. Sprays great with very little overspray.

If your careful with them you can get up to ten or more uses with the acuspray tips, I know guys using them for 15 different jobs before they notice anything in the spray pattern.

IMO primer guns and how you apply your primer is as important as your paint guns…not only for the basic application but the controlled mil thickness for longevity of the primers “hold out”….

I’m a sata guy I like the KLC sata primer gun…its a work horse and the bf100 (I think) but thats an investment for sure.

O ok, I was thinking about the starting line, which I used during school last, it worked fine, although it oversprayed more than I liked, a question about the 3M accuspray, are the tips expensive to replace?

Thanks for all the help, I’ll look into the accuspray gun, I might also look into the Iwata, sata , and maybe the sagola primer guns. I seen pictures of the sagola results and it layed it down so flat. I like buying tools that eventually make my work a little bit easier. I’m just starting out but I’d rather wait a little longer and spend the money, plus it’ll help me take the extra time to clean it out 😆

Again thanks for the opinions everyone

The primer Len sprayed with the sagola will lay smooth with a roller. The 3m gun is nice. I got mine free with the purchase of a set of caps ($18.00) Talk to your jobber, you may be able to get a good deal as well ;). The only down side of the 3m is that is is extremely slow. if you are priming whole panels it pretty much blows. The Sata primer guns are honestly the best I have used. They work really well for the higher solids primers.

Sata primer guns are hands down the best. I have used damn near every one of them also.

O ok, yeah it layed down smooth, but I would like to try the accuspray but don’t know about it being slow, I’m on the faster side of spraying, but I might give it a try, or just go ahead with one of the other guns, like a Sata, which I doubt i wont like, or will ever let me down, I have a 4000 and I love it.

Forgot to mention that I’m on my own, so no jobber comes to me….. I will try with the manager at the paint store that I go through and see if he can hook me up :cheer:

Yeah, if they are just as good for primer as the other guns are for bc/cc I don’t doubt it, If I went with sata I’d go with the jet 100 primer gun I think which is close to the $400 mark I think :woohoo:

    Accuspray xeleventeen

I don’t spray huge panels all at once, but I thin my poly primer down and it hoses on just fine for me! With the gun wide open shooting slicksand thinned 10% I have to be really careful I don’t hose on too much.

Sata speed, no. But the time saved on cleanup is probably worth it anyway.

I bought the Sagola primer gun from Len and it is by far the best primer gun I have ever used. I have sprayed 4:1 feather fill, shop line, and DPS 3500 with it and it did great on all of them. I am very impressed with it. I didnt try slick sand with it though because of the 1.8 tip. I have a cheap 2.3 tip gun for that. But keep in mind I have never used a Sata primer gun, so I cant compare the two. But I cant imagine anything laying nicer than this Sagola.

i dont think anybody here uses a sata for primer or any gun for that purpose in anticipation of laying primer down like glass. primer is supposed to be sanded anyways and the main thing u want in a primer gun is something with a large enough tip size to accommodate high viscosity primer. i have an old defynik poly primer gun which is a sagola and yes i love it only because its a 3.2 tip lol.

once you go sata you cant go back
