Wow! A real rock wall foundation!

Another way to eliminate water under there and a good one I would look into if water is a Big deal under there would be French drains along the Outside walls,
Much better than a sump pump’s.

Whats the deal with putting in the new pillars? Is this the House or the Shop?

    Nice footings but????
I would link all of them together with re-bar and a trench 8″x8″ or 12″x12″ filled with concrete and Re-bar, That way not just one can sink by itself when the ground gets too wet.And when they do crack the Re-bar will hold it together.
It doesn’t look like those holes go down into any thing but Clay.
With out making it too bed rock or a Good Gravel base if left individually each pilling will still be able to sink under its own weight and with the buildings weight.
If you link all the holes together its spreads the weight out on a sorta floating foundation.

You could also take your footings down to bed rock better yet.

well finally got a little time to post again now i got all the evidence buried
The sump pump is a temporary fix just to get the water out. we have had a record amount of rain this year so far. and i just needed to keep the water out so i could dig the footers. once its in the budget i will put pipe on the outside and seal the wall as well. I am putting in concrete filled steel columns for support on the main beams. the house is 200 years old and all they had under there were some flimsy screw jacks sitting on top of the 1in thick mud slab :S
wasn’t gonna dig 2 trenches the whole length of the basement. just didn’t have it in me. the holes for the footers are 2’x2’x15″. The clay is solid as a rock here plus I put about 6″ of 3/4 process in the holes and tamped it down solid. Then i formed out the top of the holes with 2x4s so the concrete is 1′ thick. plenty to support the weight. not to mention i will have 5 4″columns in a 24ft span.
Really the main beams in the basement aren’t that bad. a little soft in a few spots but nothing major. the floors are saggy in a few spot from where people over the years have hacked them up for various reasons. I’m gonna sister all the joists and put hangers on em. between the fist floor and second floor is the worse. one reason for all the support i’m giving the basement ceiling is for the jacking we are going to be doing to the second floor
I will post some pics of the poured footers in a while. mixed 70 80lb bags of quickcrete :S
