I have got a question for you guys. I have an Accord at work that I am fixing. It is a stolen recovery that I am fixing all over. Most of the damage is little door dings and such. My plan was to go in tomorrow and tape it up for primer. On most of the panels I blocked out most of the dings and added glaze where I needed to. My plan was when I prime it since there are so many bare metal spots I was going to first put down a coat of epoxy, let it flash for 30 minutes then proceed with my 2k primer. Is it ok to put epoxy over top of filler? I am using Duponts chromate epoxy. Would I be better off just using an etch primer? Any feedback is appreciated.

epoxy is fine. you really want to keep etch away from filler or paint. epoxy is an excellent choice for protecting metal. most productions shops would just put urethane over the bare metal.

Thanks guys! Why should you keep etch away from filler? I have heard of this I just don’t know why.

The acid in the etch can lift the feather edge of the filler.Same with paint, the factory base coat is not catalysed (sp) so it can lift or ring.I know that many people do it and will disagree with me but I don’t put body filler over paint for that reason.Epoxy is the way to go if you have the time far superior to etch IMHO.

Did someone say epoxy??? B) My all time favorite product.. LOVE IT,, great for bare metal, plastics, fiberglass, urethanes, reduced as a sealer, one coat to seal bodyfiller etc etc etc etc.. sticks to anything and everything you dont want it to:blush:

I’ve got to highly agree. unless the Etch primer specifically states it can be used over filler work. Don’t do it…

I’ve only heard of a few that are actually claimed to be safe over fillers.
