Okay, I have been working on this mustang for a while and yesterday I sprayed the base and ran out of time to clear it. Today it is really cold and raining. Tomorrow’s forecast is 61 and Wednesday is 68. I was thinking about waiting until Wednesday so the weather is better to clear it.

Do I have to sand the whole car to clear it? I heard that you have to base it again before you clear it? The window is 24 hrs.

The problem is there are stripes on the car and I had to remove all the tape before the paint set up and it would be a big pain to re-mask it again.

    What brand of paint?

I would get it cleared in the 24hr window to avoid problems.Just change hardners/reducers to the correct temp.

most basecoat recoat windows are waaaay over rated. if it sat even for a week i would not think twice about just clearing it. if you are worried about it just use slow activator in your clear and add maybe 10% slow reducer so it stays wet on the base longer and bites in a little more. that clear will have no problem biting into a base. i have never in my life had a chipping problem on anything and my stuff sits around in base sometimes for weeks while we are doing artwork. if you are using waterborne then that may be a different story since i have never used that stuff but regular solvent base should be no problem at all especially if we are only talking a few days.

I know when we used rm the window was endless for clear over solvent base. Water is 24hrs at least in the Sikkens line and only 12 hours for RM. One of the many reasons we switched from RM water back to Sikkens.

i believe that stuff is relabeled omni. i have never shot it but its my understnding that omni is one of the enamel type bases which any clear should easily bite into. that stuff is usually much slower than the premium polyester bases.
