How well does the waterbourne base match to solvent base (Detron 2000)? The reason I am asking is I have to do some repairs to my car and I am worried about the paint not matching. I have room to blend on the 1/4 panel but some of the damage is close to the hood and I don’t really want to get into blending the hood.
Heres the repairs I have to do:

The color is a tri stage white.
    Any info is greatly appreciated.

Waterbourne should be just fine. If you are using a quality product and can get a decent variant you should be fine blending it.

ouch…. nice car too. It looks to me you have enough room to blend, it shouldn’t be an issue.

Going to be using PPG’s Envirobase on it. I am hoping that it will match against the hood. If not I guess I will just paint the whole car again :rock . Been thinking about painting it like a new AMG tri stage white matte finish.
    Thanks Ben and smooth

Should be decent then. If you have the paint code and can check the variants. Envirobase is a great product and easy to use. Just make sure to do some spray outs/let down panel to verify the colour, especially if you haven’t used ehp before.

    Good luck!

the colors match well I have just found that the waterborn has more of a bass boat sparkle than some older cars do..

2009 MItsubishi code W13. There is two different colors for that code, 1 is Diamond White and 2 is Silky White. I used the Silky white on my car.

MIT.W13:10 – SILKY WHITE is a 2009 Mitsubishi color That can only be mixed in Envirobase Not DBC.
The Color code W13 PPG#92961 – DIAMOND WHITE, SILKY WHITE is a 2000 Mitsubishi color that can be mixed in Both Systems

So these are two totally different colors if you went with the 2009 color your only choice is Envirobase and there are no variants

Yes they are two different colors, my wifes 09 Outlander is Diamond white and my Regal is Silky White and there is a big difference. I ordered the paint off of the code on her truck but went with the Silky White so the two vehicles didn’t look the same. I did not know that the Silky white was a 2000 color. I have some DBC left from when I painted my car and am hoping that I have enough to do the repair on my car. If not I will be mixing it in water as the shop I am working at just put in the Enviro system today. Was nice to see the Sherwin AWX go out the door today :rock . Used the enviro on two jobs today and the difference between the two systems is night and day.

    Thanks again for the help.

going to end up with a pretty big repair area on that door

    September 22, 2011 at 2:07 am #33049

Yeah the door was a large repair area, went from top bodyline to bottom bodyline. Wasn’t much fun blocking that out, my arms and shoulders were hurting after I got it done. Overall the job came out good and the paint matched :dnc. Didn’t get any pics of the repair but got a couple of it in primer and a couple when I just got done clearing it. Take a look

I used what I had left of the Deltron DBC that I had originally put on the car. Just have to wet sand some orange peel off it and polish it back and and it will be hard to tell that it was ever damaged. I am very happy with the way it turned out and can’t wait to get it back out for a drive before I have to put it away for winter.
