I have an 2003 Cavalier that has a rust problem along the seams of the rear doors (along the arch/well area). The rust doesn`t appear to have eaten through, I am sure the majority of it can be removed with wire brush or sanding discs on a die grinder. However because the rust is around the seams area, I am sure there is rust underneath the seams too. It is a common problem with Sunfires/Cavaliers, snow and salt get thrown up from the road and sit on those rubbers.

Looking for some suggestions to get this rust issue tidied up before proceeding to paint.

Remove as much rust as I can and go with phosporic acid treatment? My concern is the rust underneath the door seams. Not really sure how to treat this area.

    Thanks,
