Just wanted to show off my latest project, a few wooden chairs I picked up last year that have been quite weathered. I meant to put some sort of stain of but just never got around to it. As a result they were quite faded and weathered. So I’ll start by showing you what I began with:

I gave them a good pressure washing and got them to look like this:

There still wet so they don’t look to bad, after drying out they had a worn look still. What I did from there was sanded them down with some 240 & a red scotchpad, cleaned em and brought them in the booth. I took some BASF BC100 (clear basecoat) and some BC850 (red toner) mixed it 4:1 (BC100:BC850) and applied 1 coat over everything & a second over the front.

So you can see the difference between the two here:

It was pretty happy with the look so I did the next one and gave it 2 coats of BASF ultra-flat clear (DC5775) so it will hopefully last a long time out in the sun. I wouldn’t recommend using this clear given the cost of it but it was given to me by the rep and it’s too flat for any practical purpose at our shop. It is a pretty cool finish though.

It pretty well looks the same here but this is after a few coats of flat clear:

Ha! That looks pretty damn good. And probably more durable than just staining.

Funny, I did my two adirondack chairs last week, except I sprayed it with some minwax stain/ urethane that was left over from previose years followed by two coats of “mystery clear” that I had laying around.

i have used alot of automotive stuff on many different wood projects over the years. btw bc800 is an excellent toner for over wood as well. has that honey oak look to it.
