I am currently restoring and older Chevy truck. For the most part it is in good shape but has a few rusted out hole in the firewall about the size of a nickle and the doors had mirrors that are being removed and holes filled. When is it ok to fill small holes with fiberglass cloth or should all holes be filled with metal. What can I expect from the fiberglass repair over time?
Holes need to be welded shut/welded solid. If you just fill them with fiberglass over time the holes will “ghost” you will see the outline and will need to be done again, sure fiberglass is faster and easier but IMO do it right the first time and be done with it.
either weld up the holes or cut some patch panels out of sheet metal and weld in depending on size of hole. If they’re rust holes, you should cut out as much of the metal as you can.
here is a pic of the rocker panel on my 69 Camaro.
