When restoring older vehicles I often run into a situation where the inside of the trunk lid is rusted with holes and missing areas. This is the lip that the trunk weather strip or gasket goes on. I am interested in how other techs have approached t his problem . These areas do not often have patch panels that can replace the damaged areas. Should I try to find a salvage vehicle with an undamaged area or try and fabricate the lip .If so any tips on how to do this or what I might use to fabricate the new lip from.

Probably just one of those things you have to make yourself out of sheet metal and patch in ?

a donor from a salvage yard would be my 1st choice, then aftermarket, then fabricating out of sheet metal.

^^^ My opinion exactly. Quicker and easier in the end.
