and I hear the iwatas arent really fast. If you had to do a complete, would your arm fall off
Probably 😆
My 1.3 is a bit slow for multiple panels, about the same as the 4000 RP 1.2 I demo’d, but I used a mates with the newer 1.3 HD (high delivery) and it was much better. His was also the newer EVO version Supernova that has the adjustment knobs screwed on properly, so they don’t fall off all the time like mine do!
January 31, 2013 at 6:15 am #40875Little more Sagola work. This is at about 8″ from the panel and 29 psi. Gives just about the right peel there. Wansnt quite right to match the factory peel, but passable. This is Chromabase and PPG (fast) 3000 clear.
Attachments:January 31, 2013 at 7:11 am #40879Only when im trying to get the peel. If im trying to spray flat, im more like 4-5 inches away and 31 psi. Havent really had much chance to try to spray flat with the Sagola yet. Been all collision work so far (cep those inner fenders). Im hoping to spray the GTO friday or Monday.
January 31, 2013 at 7:15 am #40880Trust me 2psi is not much of a difference and most bumpers aren’t peely anyways,no point in that.Save the factory peel for the sides or a hood/roof.Drop the psi to 25 and about 6,if you want to be smooth try 3inches at 75% overlap and increase your speed. Not all factory cars have peel, the german/japanese cars are pretty nice.
January 31, 2013 at 7:18 am #40882At 3″ wouldnt you be moving very very fast? Or do you drop material feed a little? Maybe the drop in air pressure to 25 doesnt hose it on as much? I usually run full fan and full material.
We dont get many German/Japanese cars (ours all come from the Chevy dealership the owner of the shop works at). But the Mini (owned by BMW/German)I just did had some pretty good peel to it.January 31, 2013 at 7:25 am #40883No I meant if you want your jobs smooth.I run my guns wide open full fan and materials in the 30-33 psi range depending on what RP model I’m using. If you have to cut back your fluid you are using too big of a tip.I do move pretty fast.
For recreating factory peel if you reduce the air pressure it won’t atomize as finely and it will go on with more texture/orange peel. If your gun runs at around 30 psi drop it down 5-6 psi(25psi to start and go from there) that will do it.
January 31, 2013 at 7:30 am #40884Ok I got ya. Take a look at this from PPG. At the bottom I was surprised to see what they think is the best of the Sata to use for this quick clear. Also look at the pressures they recommend.
http://www.ppg.com/coatings/refinish/en/products/deltron/Pages/DC2000UltraVelocityClear.aspxJanuary 31, 2013 at 7:37 am #40885yeah that is a thinner speed clear,if you spray it at the regular pressure it will dry in the air before it hits the surface.A lower pressure will allow you to get a wet coat on the surface.
January 31, 2013 at 8:18 am #40886Yeah we use that on many of our small jobs. If its much more than a fender or a quarter/door bland we use a bit slower 2042 clear. Overalls get 2021 clear.
January 31, 2013 at 9:35 am #40889Yeah on this ONE I did. I couldnt get my PPG to bring up the code so i called the dudes just down the street and had them bring me a pint (Dupont). It was a hurry up deal. Shhhhh….dont tell anyone. But really we have a PPG mix station and normally use that with the PPG clears. We are buried here and I HAD to turn and burn today. Got the mini cooper out, that van out, and have 2 2013 GMC trucks ready to spray first thing in the morning. Also long boarded the GTO (just the tub that I sprayed slick sand on a day or 2 ago) with 80 grit, and again with 220. Will wetsand that tomorrow sometime too. If my arms will hold out long enough! They are burning right now like crazy! Have one more GMC truck to do when I can. An 09 GMC with quarter and tail gate issues. That will catch me up to where I should have been Monday morning. UGH!
Do u use ur sagola much for base? When I first heard the name sagola I thought people were making fun of sata. Didnt realize it was actually a brand… lol but I have been researching it and watching videos. It seemed slow on vid but the atomization looked really good. From a video… im happy with my rp4000 for clear. I really like it. For base im using a nr 2000. But im always game to try something new
January 31, 2013 at 5:25 pm #40897No in fact I’ve only used the Sagola like 3 times. I use it only for clear. I have a Sata 3000 HVLP digital that I use for base. It really lays metallics nice.
February 1, 2013 at 8:00 am #40911Well I only got one of the trucks done today. Peel came out pretty close. Sanded my nuts off on the GTO most of the day.
