blocking is cleaner and quieter and gets it straighter but for removing a little excess I have used the da before. …. we block filler by hand. :kofee
X3 :deadhorse
You can use air tools to take some of the meat off it, but if your not finishing with a block your not finishing

For auto body work do you recommend a 3/32″ or 3/16″ orbit, random orbital sander? Also do you guys prefer a palm sander or a two hand sander with a handle? Hook and Loop or PSA attachments?
I am thinking a 6″ palm sander with a PSA attachment, since i can use PSA pads with small sanding blocks and a 3/32″ orbit so I have more control of my sanding. what do you guys think?
January 29, 2011 at 1:32 am #27767For bodywork I use a 5/16″ d/a. For prep I use a 3/16″. If only buying one go for the 3/16. A 3/32 is for fine finishing. They are almost useless they are so slow. I have two of them and they collect dust. I only really use them for sanding blend panels on a car if it had really thin clear and I was worried about buring through an edge.
January 29, 2011 at 2:52 am #27768Ryan, is right a 3/32″ orbit is just about useless. I use a 3/16″ 90% of the time and a 3/8″ when I’m pissed off at a lump of filler.
January 29, 2011 at 5:22 pm #27781Yup, that a no go on the 3/32. 3/16 will do pretty much anything you need. i do a ton of finish sanding as well which is what the 3/32 is for and it completely sucks at that as well. i sold my 3/32 a month after i bought it. i talked to our local 3m rep here and he even said they dont recommend them for any of their finish sanding. they are pretty much 3/16 across the board all the way up to 3000 grit. the 5/16 is probably good for a mud hog, stuff like that.
