I know this has probably been asked to death but I now have the available funds to get a 4000rp. My question is it worth the extra money over the prolite considering the tekna comes with two caps three nozzles etc. Has anyone had the opportunity to use both and can give me some insight :stoned

What are you planning on spraying with the RP? How much do you paint and in what conditions?

Will be using it mainly for clear coat MS & HS clears, I work in a panel shop painting for a living doing on average 3 cars a day. We have two spray ovens at work so conditions are in a temp controlled environment apart from summer time when it gets very hot and dry conditions.

What part of the world are you in?

I was only curious because if you were only planning on spraying a few cars I would go with what was cheaper since they are both really nice guns. Can you get a demo of either? They will both produce a first rate finish, it will come down to personal preference honestly. I use both and get great results with both.

I’m from Australia Ryan, so i was going to get the tekna prolite of eBay from the states and the cheapest place for the sata 4000 that I could find was England. Considering the tekna comes with a lot more options and produces great finishes I think I will go for that.

Im not sure what shipping and Importing taxes would cost you but they sell devilbiss gti prolites in Australia. Almost the same gun. Check that out and see if it can save you some coin. Also do yourself a favor and see if you can find a devilbiss gti pro with a T110 aircap to try. It is one of my favorite guns for clear. Depending on the specific clear you use it may be a great option.

The tekna will not have any advantage over the GTI Prolite. Depending on exchage rates and such the Tekna could be cheaper, not sure.

Over here the prolite comes with only one setup and go’s for around $450. The tekna on the other hand comes with multiple caps three nozzles, digital gauge plus dekups adapter to boot, way better value, for not much more $$. :weights
The fact is I will be using the gun everyday so it will get a good workout, do you think it will hold up? BTW Ryan which do you prefer between the sata & prolite?

What are the different between the GTI models: millenium, plus, pro, etc. I have been using a GTI as well spraying both base/clear coats with good results. (current student in autobody class)

Went to a Sata demo recently, well high quality guns but lil bit too pricey for my taste….and Sata 4000B does not have a fan control knob….

KLese said- sata 4000b does not have a fan control knob……

Yes it does its on the left hand side of the gun instead of directly on top of the fluid control like devilbiss guns :p

Everybody gets on sata about the price, but in reality if you buy from a good jobber you will get a better price$700 or $800 retail turns into $500 or $600 wholesale.WHen it comes to buying a quality tool that you will use day in and day out that will last the test of time sata has the edge. The prolite is a great gun IMO and so is the 4000 you can’t go wrong with either one. There are a few differences but nothing major.

I have both guns and I prefer the 4000 for clear. The extra caps you probably won’t use unless you start using it for basecoat or primers, but if you just use it for clear chances are you will find a set up and stick with it. The fan pattern on the 4000 is a little softer. That would be my choice.

JasonM – Thanks for pointing that out. At the Sata demo, the Rep explained it differently. He refered to the fan control knob as a way to change the fan pattern for a small repair (round spray pattern) He also recommend reducing the air pressure to lower the fan pattern.

Spray tech – Are you spraying solventbase or waterbase with the Sata? What size tip are you using to spray clear coat?

Was there something else a fan control knob was supposed to do

    Yeah, figured that 😉

Got a little confused because the Rep never called it that but rather a way “to do small spot repairs” (his exact words)…

    this should be interesting :stoned
So how did you come to this conclusion? I just have to ask what kind of work and what kind of materials do you use?
