so today my jobber offers me his brand new sata wsb 4000 hvlp. i’m get to pop the cherry on this thang. so since i own the 3000 wsb hvlp, i thought why not do some comperasions. :weights
ok so i only had the gun for this afternoon, but i had some covers to paint.:stonedpaint system—-enviro high performance, dc clears.
what gets painted. 3 covers, civic, tahoe, malibu. i’ve decided to paint the gm covers for this test. the 4000 got the malibu,(green) the 3000 got the tahoe (gold). civic, well who cares other than nex.now i hung some paper on the wall, and did various psi test just to see what the sweet spot would be. again the 4000 got the green and 3000 got the gold. so to start both guns are set wide open on the fan and fluid. start at the left you will see 25 psi, then 29 psi in the middle, and 27 on the right witht the 4000 fan knob turned in. as you can see both guns stayed consistant, but the 4000 pattern seems to be the perfect spray.
so my verdict the winner is….. here goes. the wieght of both felt about the same, however sata redifine the comfort grip on the pistol, and feels realy good in your hand, i mean the curves where your thumb and fingers are placed to the gun are more rounded and fit like a glove. so your hand doesn’t feel fatigued. and really it doesn’t seem as bulky.
which one covered faster? honestly both guns cover both covers in 3 coats, but………the 4000 seems to do the job faster. wait, what? how? by that, i mean because the spray pattern is longer, it covers more area per square inch, so i was able to cover the cover faster and doesn’t seem to lay it down as wet as the 3000k, and the 70% overlap seem more easier, and use less material. i did the malibu with 10 oz and the tahoe with 12 oz. so less matiral, more coverage, and the dry time seemed to be a tad faster. also with the psi it didn’t seem to have a sweet spot from 25-29 psi. it stayed consistant. unlike my 3000 seems to like 27 psi best.
so which is the best bang for the buck? depends on you and your flow and weather or not you use solvent or water.
i use water, so to me the 4000k hands down, on a budget 3000, both are good guns, but the hype of this thang is lived up.
so if you have the coin it’s a good buy, you will make your money worht’s off of it. now i wait for the rp version.
:nothingtoadApril 28, 2011 at 6:59 am #30579jay may be able to answer more question on the gun, i get it untill next wed. so i will put it to good use. i’m already trying to figure out how it could get stolen *cough*cough*, i mean hope it don’t get stolen.

Hey nice write up lild, I to have got the 4000hvlp and have the same conclusion, it has a really large fan pattern but for the clear I find it to be really slow, Im also shooting envirobase. Oh Im spraying out of a 1.3 tip, got a 4000rp with a 1.3wsb tip on the way for a clear gun:cheers

April 29, 2011 at 7:56 am #30627Why on earth would you want a 1.3wsb Rp for clear? That tip is designed for waterborne basecoat not clear, get a regular 1.3 or 1.4 RP 4000 for clear.

We have had the 4000 HVLP as a demo for a few days, with a 1.4 tip (spraying Autowave). Painted a gold front end on an Avalanche with it yesterday…so far so good, but I am not quite feeling all the love that some others are. We well see how it performs on some other jobs.
Next week we should get the RP in to try clearing with…that is the one I am more excited about.
April 30, 2011 at 8:31 pm #30645I have had the chance to use the new 4000 HVLP 1.4. I sparyed two covers in and a bedside in autobase plus, one with my 3000 HVLP 1.3 and the other with the 4000, They sprayed real similar, only the 4000 atomized a toch better and at a lower pressure than my 3000. My clear looked better over the job done with the 4000. I used the 4000 for clear (Pro air) and it is slow but it does a good job. I just cant get my 3000 to spray clear at all so I didnt even try. I used a 3000 RP 1.3 and I thought the 4000 HVLP worked better for me. Still not as good as my LPH400LV4 but the 4000 HLVP is a nice gun.
