very nice! Can you post some Ws400 evo stuff when you get a chance? Im intrigued by the idea of not having to deal with all the solvent pop and if the ws400 can help, im there. I know you guys are constrained by factory texture so slick is not a concern but which of the 2 do you feel puts it on the flattest? Ive already been amazed at the quality of the 5000 rp for slick clears and i really have been fighting dumping it on, ie in the winter Im sure I can really do amazing things with it. Lastly-so the base issues with iwata are not a problem anymore? It was my understanding that you needed multiple caps to spray fine vs heavy and pearls. The reason ive ignored them is that i could really do it all with 1 sata if i needed. The teknas are my choice for base because they work so well for it and 1 prolite handles everything and its all included. Ive really concentrated my efforts on the perfect clear gun and i may have to relook at Anest Iwata again. Thanks for taking the time to post RickiBobby-you and Jason Rock.
June 10, 2015 at 8:43 pm #48803Sorry cdykstradid not mean to forget you-all you guys who take the time from your own shops to make this place what it is rock-I appreciate everything i learn here.
I know this is a sata 5000 thread guys so sorry to throw this in but just recently bought a devilbiss prolite base,im in uk (teckna in usa ) i have the te10 aircap but am getting a little mottle in light metalics and pearls ? Im spraying mipa solvent basecoat Full fan and about 2.5 to 3 turns out on fluid at about 1.8 bar ? Do you think this gun should be used at lower pressure ? Thanks
June 11, 2015 at 4:45 am #48807Hi Scoobycarl
The Te10 has a range 0f 20-35 but is a higher pressure lower solids choice. the te20 is 16-26, the hv30 is 20-24. the te10 has the broadest range of psi. I think of it as old school med solids cap. Mottle is usually spraying to wet or not enough pressure or to close. Also wrong reducer Try bumping up/moving back a little or trying the hvlp cap. you gotta atomize that metallics better or she dont orient right.in too much film and clumps together. If you like lower pressure for paint savings cut your material knob in a half turn till it lays right. The teknas are all fabulous base guns i wouldn’t use anything else for base.June 11, 2015 at 5:47 am #48808I never really liked the TE10 air cap couldn’t really get it to do anything that I was happy with.In short is you want a job to have a little more texture/peel the te10 is a good choice.I would suggest using a TE20,it has better atomization and metallic control.I had a real run of using teknas for WB and the prolite for clear but don’t really care for them anymore.Let us know how you make out with the TE20 as it’s a more rounded air cap.
June 11, 2015 at 7:30 am #48809i agree with the te20 choice jason but in UK they get 1 tip 1 cap so hed have to buy 1 and I just figured hed want to make it work. Can I ask why you dont care for the tekna any more? Even for base? WHAT are you using for base now? Probabably a pair of 5000 rps? I never really fell in love with the 4000 hvlp but i do like hvlp for base. Te20 is great for problem and any/all metalic but i feel it goes through a bunch of material. My set up with the hv30 has never had any trouble with any color. Lastly i have a bunch of like new guns i am considering selling does the site have a venue for that or is it a no no. I feel like the 5000 is a gun i plan on wearing out and finally can let some of my babies go to better homes.
June 11, 2015 at 8:55 am #48810I used a tekna for WB for 2 years and I always had to struggle with any color that had 888DF(autowave fine metallic toner) as it was darn near impossible to get to lay out nice no matter what I did.A friend and member here was nice enough to give me his old NR2000 that needed a little bit of loving.Even though there are a ton of miles on this gun it out performs a tekna or prolite anyday of the week IMO for base.
For a long time my go to guns were the NR2000 and a first gen RP until the 5000rp came along.I did try a W-400 and it’s a great gun but I find it slow, great for a panel or 2.I never had much interest in trying the supernova, not crazy about having to turn the fan in so much to get speed.I don’t like to fuk around,I like to get some clear on the car and get out of the booth, speed and a nice finish is important to me,thats why I dig the 5000 and no other gun comes close except the first rp or 3000IMO.HTH
Pretty sure there is a classified section here you can list your guns with no worries.
June 11, 2015 at 9:21 am #48811yeah i do agree about the 5000 -it is the best gun ive ever had in my hand for clear-i will be picking up another for base eventually. I also like to rock and roll in the booth and hate making something simple complicated. I have no experience with iwata so kinda talkin out my butt….but seems slow from what ive seen on youtube etc… i should get rid of some of my old guns but i get attached and its like getting rid of granny to me, I still love my RP2 1.4 and use it daily for spi epoxy and 2k urethane sealer. The 4000 hvlp was the first hvlp i bit on since the NR95 which left such a badtaste in my mouth so many years ago. I was pleasantly surprised with the hv30 on the tekna and its become my go to base gun along with another prolite with the te20. I shoot diamont base but am looking at sikkens as we have a new paint jobber that moved in selling it, debeer and valspar. problem is the cost of that system is right up there with glasurit-beautiful paint but wow sticker shock. Have you ever sprayed Metalux? If so what do you think of it?
June 11, 2015 at 4:54 pm #48814…Yeah I bought the 4000 hvlp as a knee jerk response to 10 year old nr2000’s on ebay guys were asking 350 dollars for but i guess its a really good gun and they can get it. I only paid 400 dollars for the 4000 hvlp as the dude selling it used it for like a week and and hated it. Funny thing is i can use it for base ok, but I like it better for clear. Its just they are such air hogs and the rps do as good a job for 1/3 the air. If i am spraying Glasurit,, I actually use the 4000 hvlp, as it does save on material and i see zero difference in clear quality-( compared with 4000rp )just slower thats all, and if you push it in and close the fan up Im not sure its even slower at all.
June 11, 2015 at 6:55 pm #48819sorry for the lag on this-Instead of talking about aircaps we should have just said 1.8 bar is ok for 2-3 coats to get the color on for coverage only- but bump that pressure up to 2 bar maybe even 30 psi for your drop(orientaton coat) and it will straiten that fine metallic out. We use the te20 and HVLP cap hv30 and i have zero base issues with either cap. my te10 that came with my second gun is still in its sealed factory plastic box where it will stay more than likely. I actually prefer the hv30 for base it atomizes the crap out of the base at lower psi so you get the best of both worlds. I only said what i said because i know you guys dont get all the goodies with each gun like we do. and wasnt sure if you were up to spending the 100 bucks for the new air cap. Peace
June 11, 2015 at 7:30 pm #48822So you aint to craz about the 4000 hvlp either huh-i think its cuz they were trying to make it a better choice for clear and i think they succeeded over all-i like it pretty good for clear-just not in the same league as the 5000rp thats fer sure.
June 11, 2015 at 7:38 pm #48823Where is the classified part of the site
? i looked for awhile last night and did not see any? Ive got some choice stuff im thinking of parting with. My 3000 digital rp 1.3 is freakin brand new and i know people still want these. I have a 4000 rp 1.3 and 1.4 and a 4000 hvlp. Think anyone might want em ?
I kinda want to be done with the 4000 era now that I got the new one and am liking it so. Problem with me is i get attached and you lose too much dinero from new. I dont paint 3-5 a day like you guys and everyone on ebay thinks all guns are worn out-mine are mint and ripped down after every job so my guns that are 20 years old look like brand new. and have like no hours on em. If i sold a few i might be able to pilfer a 5000 hvlp- any experience with it? - AuthorPosts
