hey guys new to this site. 1st i graduated community college in 2004 with an associates degree applied science i did the GM ASEP program which supposedly was to prepare me for employment as a service or line tech it was a co-op with area dealers etc…. i loved the program and graduated #1 but i was nowhere near prepared when i graduated. class and book learning was so far behind the real world and after a few bad experiences at 2 area dealers i got out of it. i am now looking to and thinking about enrolling in the comm college body shop tech program a 1 year diploma . i have always enjoyed doing my own bodywork and painting on my mustangs and etc… i just want feedback from experienced techs what yall think do you like what you do can you live off your earnings etc…… any replies here or to my email is greatly welcomed i am ponycar4me@gmail.com

Dont waste the money, it will be no different that what you went through trying to be a mechanic. You will have to start at the bottom no matter if you goto school or not.. Personally I would go back to school and get a degree in something that will actually make you a good living, fixing cars it not a very stable career these days.

I agree with Joe. What he says is true, and if I could go back I would do the same as he says. Lots of easier ways to make a living.

With that said I am a believer in doing what you enjoy doing for a living. If you are good at what you do and truly care and want to be the best you will succeed at any career. If you want to be a bodyman and work hard you can make a nice living. Every shop has a guy they would not let go and that guy is taken care of.
