I just got this gun 3 days ago from a friend. It’s never been used, and like the title above states, it has a 1.5mm tip on it. The problem is I don’t know if that is too big for clear and/or base coat, and if I would be better off getting a 1.4 or 1.3mm. I am going to be shooting Matrix ms-42 clear and the p-sheets recommend a 1.3 – 1.7mm. 1.7 seems a bit on the gigantic side. I also have a Sagola w100g conventional gravity feed gun, and a Devilbiss gfhv-610(or gfhv-501……510?…can’t remember)conventional gravity feed gun and they both have 1.4 tips on it. I’ve just started getting into adding more guns to my collection and the 3 guns I just mentioned are my best three. I know they all might be a little outdated, but it will have to work for right now. So does anybody have any experience with 1.5mm tips for clearing and basing? What about the other two? Any answers or advice are GREATLY appreciated!!:woohoo: Thanks.

Sorry I don’t have any advice directly towards your sharpe, I can tell you I experienced this with a GTI. It was a RM clear and most of the time before getting in this clear I’d be spraying a 1.3-1.4. The 1.5 always felt like spraying out of a garden hose to me.

Anyhow a bit skeptical at first, I went with the tech sheet recommendations and put on the 1.5 and was amazed at how effortlessly the clear layed down.

In general I would avoid basing with a tip that large, I don’t even like using a 1.4. Their is a painter at my shop that used to base with a 1.5 GTI with his fluid needle dialed in. (don’t know why, don’t ask)

Granted the clear I used was probably thicker then what your using as the tips size recommendations started at 1.5, I thought I’d just share what I got.

thanks for the reply. I think I’ll go ahead and clear with the 1.5. It’s my own car so I have all the time in the world to colorsand and rub if it gets to peely.

cut back the volume a little and up the air pressure a touch.

I use my big sharpe cobalt for solids … cutting it back …only full on hoods B) got one with smaller tip for metalics

personally i think a guy could get in trouble with a 1.5 but its a sharp an they dont shoot that fat anyway probably just get a little peely with a tip that size 1.2 seems ta be the perfect tip for clear anymore 😉

 hmmmm….thanks for the reply guys. I’ll probably use the sharpe for the sealer then (dplf epoxy). What about the devilbiss gfhv-501 with the 1.4mm? In my first post I said my devilbiss was a conventional gravity feed, but come to find out, it ended up being an hvlp (just got it in the mail). Anyone heard of this gun? It is a retired product from devilbiss so I can’t find much info on it. Thanks
