i have been spraying sherwill for 6 years now from ultra to AWX and im finding at least 50% tinting to get anywhere near an accurate colour matchs among other things. has anyone else been having any problems with AWX? poor tech support and my rep telling me that no one else is having these issues is not helping plus the fact the i have talked to other painters who have the same concerns.. if u have a concern or a suggestion id be happy to hear

Have yet to hear anything good about AWXI’ve used a little bit of it. Found colour matching to be poor and didn’t like using it in general… I think the Ultra 7000 was far superior to the AWX. I never used enough of it to figure it out. I think your best bet is to switch products if you can.
The reason he said no one else is complaining about it is because no one else is using it 🙂

How about you schedule a demo of ppg envirobase or sikkens AW at the same time those 3 reps come in so you can show them some real paint :clappy :clappy :clappy
A friend of mine used to work at the local dodge dealership and they went from global to sherwill AWX,he said that most od the jobs either looked like leather or they would comeback with delam problems and color match was non-existent.
I used Sherwin for years, and always had success with Ultra 7000. I’ve sprayed enough AWX to know that I didn’t care for it. Color match, complete dehydration of the base, and coverage are all problem areas. That being said, AWX has been a real problem for S/W. You are not the only one being told that, “nobody else is having these issues” by your reps. They are telling people that in every market that is complaining, and there are a TON of complaints. I have been privy to some “inside” info on what’s been happening with all of this, and its not pretty. They are losing a lot of accounts, and are in damage control mode right now. There are much better/more user-friendly systems out there that are just as cost effective, if not even more cost effective than AWX. When coverage is lacking, and you have to tint 50-70% of your colors, that low price-tag on the can of paint means NOTHING.
I like Jayson’s suggestion! If PPG and Sikkens show-up at the same time though, the Sherwin people will probably just pack-up their stuff and leave because they are well aware that they can’t compete… LOL
May 10, 2012 at 10:06 pm #36878I switched to Martin Senour Vortex (same as Sherwin’s AWX) and after 6 months of poor results we switched paint lines to Sikkens. Your problems and response from your rep. are way to familiar. After spending way too much money on new guns and drying equipment I came to the conclusion that my shop could just not make this stuff work and made the decision to change paint lines after spraying ms for 21 years. We have been spraying Sikkens Autowave for a year and half now with great results.
