Chris I wasn’t sure if you were using a fast clear or not,I think hpc-15 is there speed clear but not sure about SW products, haven’t used much of the stuff.I was just throwing the term speed clear out there, when you are production using a speed clear or accelerator can cause loss of gloss.I know back in the 80’s and 90’s sherwin base needed lots of flash time or you would get dieback issues, but I’m sure things have changed.
May 8, 2011 at 3:38 pm #30751I have never used the HPC15 or 21. A good friend of mine used it quite a bit and said it is a finicky clear. He wasn’t a fan. I am not familiar with any of the Sherwin low VOC clears, but 930 was a nice faster drying clear.
I wouldn’t have high hopes for the EC700. I used some and found it to be quite disappointing. Dturcotte said he had the best luck over reducing it, but it air dried painfully slow for him. I know after baking it was still really soft for me. And I baked it with quads running.

I used to spray SW U7000 and use ACME for clear, wow that clear is out to lunch man. Would never use that clear again if possible, the stuff was like water, would constantly die, general all around garbage clear.
AnonymousMay 9, 2011 at 3:32 am #30757I’ve been using the HPC21 without any noticeable issues, i dont do the wet on wet thing tho…give it a minute between coats. Shoot it with my Sata RP 1.3 dialed in a bit.

Are we talking about the same clear? It just got switched over to the ACME label recently it was under the crossfire label and refinishers select label before. If so must be something in your setup because I’ve yet to really hear anything bad about it and alot of people on here have sprayed it. Yes I know It’s a cheaper cleat but that doesn’t really mean it’s garbage. I’ve sprayed some high dollar clear that was garbage compared to this stuff. I’m not saying It’s the best clear on planet earth but I’ve had great luck with it as well as many others. It also seems to hold up pretty well down the road too.
