That’s a good question,in north america I don’t think you can get the old autobase.Old autobase is polyester based, uses more reducer(more voc),requires a drop coat to even out metallics and it can still be tricky.Autobase plus is more of a urethane based like ppg dbc or dupont chromabase, but it covers better, requires less reducer, easier to spray in regards to metallics and pearls.I’m sure i forgot something?I haven’t sprayed autobase since 2003,that’s when we went to autobase plus, last year we went to autowave.HTH 😉

Do you have to add a product called Atomizing Agent to it? What reduction does it call for?

Old Autobase was reduced around 1 to 1 with 10% AA (could be wrong, it has been awhile since I used it)

Autobase plus is reduced 100 parts to 50-80 parts reducer.

If you have trouble with it lifting like crazy on cut-throughs it is Autobase! 😉

    I resmble that remark.

And I fondly remember 1-2-3 reducer. :dnc

How about XT hardener,autocryl,3+1,autoclear….ah the good old days

    3+1 LOL

What about auto nova filler. Cars still smelled years after when they came in for another repair.

I would like to see some MS clears and how they look next to today’s chemistry.

I have seen some trailer queen paintjobs that were done back in the early 90’s with autobase and autoclear…they still looked great but they are pampered.Do you remember the old ecco syphon sprayguns? We still have a couple at the shop with blending solvent in them.It would be fun to spray some of the old clears and see what they look like compared to superior.Kinda scary to look back at those days and realize how long I have been doing this :wak 😛

My fathers driving around a 66 El Camino that I did with auto clear circa 1991.

A JGA with a 1.4 tip and 9000 cap will put even an RP to shame.

I never had a jga with a 1.4,but I did have a devilbiss GFG with a 1.4 and a 9000 air cap,it was just as good as my jet90… :clappy The old ecco 40 with a 1.5 was a damn good gun too, when sikkens came to our neck of the woods in 85 that was the go to gun 😉
