    HERES my problem, i spray autowave and the Car was a VW code LA3H and I did spray all variants and then did a camera shot, nothing matched. This is the second solid red that was too dirty. Other car code was a honda R-503, the reps solved the problem by going back to solvent just for that one job.They need a cleaner red toner, wonder if all water has the same pigment problem.Using water since Dec. and this is the second red that just could not fly. :wak

    Are you blending or trying to butt match?Do you clear your sprayout cards?this can make the color look different if you are not clearing them.I have sprayed that color before but don’t remember having a problem.It is much easier to tint your color to blend as opposed to a butt match.I have been using autowave for over a year now and I have found the color matches much better than autobase plus.Give me some more info maybe I can help,I have been spraying sikkens since 1988 :wak

    yes I was panel painting two dooors, I clear the color chips and keep for future reference.On first glance they look good, then staring at the doors I sprayed, they just look like they aren’t clean. I always panel painted with auto base plus, solid reds were never an issue.

    Akzo have had major major problems with solid red’s in water base, i use Lesonal witch is a branch of akzo nobel.

    We had major problems with just about all solid reds as bad as two in ten would match.

    The one’s that did not match were a country mile away, very dirty and brown looking.

    There is now a new tinter out for Lesonal that has helped a lot, all the solids reds have been re-formulated, there is now a choice to mix either the old formulas or post 2008 formulas.

    The reds now match as i would expect quite good

    In this day and age we should be able to panel paint solid colours.

    I panel painted reds in spies hecker solvent edge to edge for years and hardly ever had any issue’s ( that was in basecoat) some of the high solid red’s tended to be a little to orange for my liking.

    As far as i am aware this problem is with all Akzo brands.

    that lessonal is probley the route I will go. The car is not even sold, its a new VW, lot damage and would be in bad taste to try and get away with something less than correct. I knew I could not be the only one to see this happen. Great site here!!

    I spray with onyx. I like to put reds and yellows over a white ground coat! Wood that clean the color up?

    You know what I disagree,in this day and age why are you guys panel painting??I know some times I do it but very rarely… solid color or not I will blend,when you are flat rate or not the extra time it takes to go into the next panel is minimal and it will save you time and money.I have used lesonal and sikkens and there is no way in north America that lesonal has a better colormatch.It still baffles me why some people will spend 4 hrs tinting to get a perfect butt match when you can blend it out,tint to blend is my last resort.Just my 2 cents.

    My thoughts exactly. I can get away with butt matching from time to time. The only reason I know that is when I edge a fender I do the whole thing then hang it and sometimes it matches. But… I go ahead and blend the door and hood anyways, I get paid to do it SO WHY NOT? IMO, If you show the insurance company that you can pannel paint they will expect it every time. Paint times are already being cut enough. I dont think I could make a living if they keep it up!

    I have to agree with Jayson on this. I try not to panel paint if all possible. I would never panel paint 2 doors on the side of a car.

    But then again I am not a top notch tinter. I can almost always adjust a color to make a good blendable match and sometimes panel paint but it takes me awhile.

    Man friday eve I knocked out a rental car it was a new little chevy somthing… forget the code since my prepper made the paint but I sprayed it in envirobase and man 2 coats it was looking good and a butt match to the hood!!!!!!!! ppg rocks

    All brands have there good colors and bad. In Sikkens there are alot of colors that are dead on matches. As a general rule I would always rather have the blend. We get alot of cars in that have been painted on before. It is nothing to see two different shades of paint on both ends of the repair.

    I just like to keep things flowing at work. If I have my color sprayed out before it hits the booth and I have blend everywhere I can get 5-6 cars through the booth in a day. If I am fighting panel paints and trying to tint you can make it 2-3 cars.

    the rep said to use auto base plus on my red cars, they are awhere of the problem and working on a new cleaner water toner as we speak. Thanks guys
