I am looking for a clear to spray over autowave, right now we are using hs+lv and having inconsistent results and are looking for alternatives. I have a semi down draft w/heat but no baking capabilites, any body have anything good to say about energy pro 250?
    Thanks for any replies

energy pro isnt bad, dries pretty quick, find to get a little more orange peel with the energy pro
rather than the superior, but if your not baking then you cant really use the superior it will take a year to dry
a guy on here said you can use the superior hardener on the energy pro, but i havent tried it out yet.
not a bad all around clear, not great for bigger jobs

If it has to be low VOC energy pro and superior are really your only options. Superior doesn’t air dry too bad. If doing an all over is may be your best option.

Energy pro is a good clear as long as you use superior 250 hardener with it.If you use it with energy pro hardener it is very fast, even with slow it would be a challenge to spray a whole side.I’m sure they will come out with an extra slow reducer. The hardener swap comes from the western canada training center and we have been shooting this clear since Last june mixed this way with no issues.

Superior 250 can be used with lv accelerator to speed up your jobs, and it doesn’t affect the gloss what so ever.If you use it with fast reducer and accelerator it is great for bumper covers or a panel or two and it will get out of dust relatively fast.If your booth can maintain 70-80F you will have no problems. What our shop has done is stock both clears and use one hardener, but you still have to stock the seperate activators for energypro and superior. We use energypro on the quicker jobs and 250 on thew larger jobs. You could also look at U-tech HS-21 clear,it will work over waterborne and it has a nice look to it.Hope this helps you out.

Can superior 250 or the energy pro be used over solvent?

The Superior says on the can for autowave only (not go over solvent). I assume the energy pro is the same.

    Thanks Ben.

That is more than likely Sikkens attempt and stopping customers bastardizing the product, i.e. they want you to put their clear over their base, this quite a common statement on TDS sheets.

It is just a solvent based clear after all

It will delam when put over solvent. Ding knows why, he told me but I cant remember exactly what it is. Something like it is missing the molecule that lets the tail solvents out.

Interesting tail solvents out of the solvent base do you mean ?

This is just what on of the sikkens guys told me that one of the chemists told him. there is a passive molecule in most clears that will continue to allow solvents from base to escape after the clear has cured. the superior 250 does not have this passive molecule and that is why it is not allowed over solvent bases.
this rep is in the commercial division and wasnt here to sell me any paint. he was actually here buying parts from me :cheer:
