I did read it buddy. Maybe I should have worded it better. Nobody owes you a discount on paint. Is that better? Shops get discounts because they buy a large volume of paint. The jobber doesnt get paint as cheap as you would think. I have seen a cost list for another brand before and the markup is not very impressive. They only make money on volume.

Maybe you should explain to them how it would benefit them since you will be heavily promoting their product when you go to a cruise in.

Ding beat me to it, but our local Akzo Nobel branch will not sell to walk in customers, only commercial accounts, so telling someone at a car show that you used Sikkens means nothing.. I wont lie we have gotten free paint over the years, but we spend 200K+ a year. Just suck it up and pay for your products everyone else has to..
Well don’t wait for Barry from SPI to give you anything for free either :rofl :rofl :rofl My jobber is great,he gave me 2 gallons of superior and hardener etc and 3 litres of autowave for my chevelle no charge :clappy But the base went bad before I got around to painting it 😛 Our shop is pretty good,we don’t have to pay squat for doing our own cars, unless you are doing a write off every week.Talk to your jobber or rep and tell him it is a show car and it will get attention and they will get some advertising. If they still won’t help you tell em you will use ppg and you are thinking of switching :clappy that might help loosen there belt :lol1
that sounds pretty gravy

giving stuff out for samples and discounts, free guns and whatever else is all advertising. advertising cost money so a company has to feel that the dollars they are spending with you on this is going to pay in the long run for them. 1 car aint going to cut it or pay their bills. most large paint companies need large shops who spend hundreds of thousands a year. thats the customers they need to get not the couple guys who decide to use their paint because they saw it on a car at a show. also all the money for that free stuff and discounts have to come from somewhere. why do you think it cost $800 for a gallon of red that cost about $5 to make. nothing is free and everyone pays for it in the end.

    February 22, 2011 at 2:44 am #28812

Could you post up a few pics of some of these award winning rides that the paint companies should be chomping at the bit to get their products on? :welc

The paint supplier won’t give me anything, but my boss let’s me buy stuff through the shop account.

i’ve always gotten my stuff for free on my personal cars. my guns were free, the sun gun was free from another comp. trying to get in.
but i agree with the others, unless your a big shop that they consider to be a investment, forget it.
