I feel bad for you PPG guys for having to spray PPG. :p
To be honest I could give a shit less what’s given to me for free and getting a $1 t-shirt. I only care about the color matches, quality of paint and having great support from my reps. I have had Dupont give me several paint guns, free paint and a couple d/a’s and it really didn’t matter. There rep was good too. All that didn’t keep them in the shop due to piss poor color match.

If I can’t make money due to the product I am going to lose more money than I will ever recover in free stuff.

Something else to think about, sales at all paint companies are way down. Most can’t give you free stuff as it has to be accounted for somewhere. Plus if you are hitting them up for free stuff so are 100 other painters. I’m sure it gets old real fast. How many of you would work for free at work on a weekly basis? I’m with Joe on this I can see the shop getting freebies because they actually spend the money. The painter doesn’t.
Well said Ry :cheers

Well said Ryan! I think everyone here has sprayed PPG at one point, it only lasted 6 months here, that was 15 years ago.
has nothing to do with greed. If a paint rep wants to give the painter free stuff so be it. But there is no reason for the shop to be giving out free materials to its guys. when the help fuks up and it costs the shop owner money do they reimburse the shop for the lose. No they dont. People that own business and employ others take a big risk every day they open the doors. Evey one has to work together to make the place successful. But if it was thay easy owning your own place you would still be in business for yourself :pcorn:
People here want complete paint jobs for $1200,and show quality, can’t pay the bills with that budget, nevermind my own wages,I did it for 7-8 years,I make more flat rate at the dealership hands down.
I got the answer I was looking for, apparently they’ll give materials to us for one personal project per year,so no problems.:stoned
Well now I feel bad for all you Sikkens users because my PPG jobber helps me out all the time and gives me demo stuff quite often.
I know for a fact,if I went down to my old supplier,he’d hook me up,no questions asked, that’s what I miss about PPG,top notch service on that level.:cheers
everything we mix goes across a scale so I would know if guys were taking product. It is tracked very very closely. My guys are paid well enough that they dont need to do side work or steal materials to make a living…
WHOA!!!!He’s PARANOID too!:P :rofl
I wasn’t talking about side jobs,PERSONAL cars, some of us have hobbies outside of work that involve cars,I don’t need side jobs,I could work 7 days a week,12 hours a day if I were so inclined.
I think every shop in the free world is tracked electronically in this day and age,no worries about stealing product, wow,I can’t even believe you threw that out there,my suspicions about you were bang on……….

Actually I know many shops that only mix toners across the scale. I am not an owner that just sits in the office. I still paint cars weekly and continue to do bodywork on a needed basis. I am around my guys most of the time, I also am the one to do weekly inventory and I know what we use weekly. It wouldnt take me more than 5 minutes to figure out if someone was stealing. But like I said all of my guys have been here almost 15 years, I would trust any of them to run this place. I can leave for 1-2 months and not worry about a thing if needed. The big difference between me and you is I am STILL running a successful shop and you ARE NOT. The fact that you can make more money working for someone else than working for yourself says it all, you didnt have what it takes..And I dont care how bad your market is, we have almost 20% unemployment and I am still making money, and paying my guys better than any other shop in the area. I have 5 shops within less than 2 miles from me, not included the other 100 that are less than a 15 mile radius. Most body man/painters can do the work but have no clue how to run a business! I am official done w/ this thread! Whine about not getting free paint to your supplier not here!
