I have received some Kawasaki parts for a repaint but it makes me a little nervous. The current factory paint is, clearcoat wise, near damn perfect. hardly any peel. I have never seen that before on factory paints.

What could be Kawasaki’s secret? Master painters? I can’t imagine they cut/buff all their bikes…

Flowcoats and it’s a small part. Not hard to get a smooth finish. Not all bikes are that nice. Some have heavy peel, some have fine peel, some are glass. Look at some HD’s with factory paint for instance. The graphics are buried and the clear is often dripping off the bottoms of the fenders. Last smashed HD I did was just black and very heavy peel.

no real secret they just dont put much paint on bikes ,with kawasaki they dont use a primers either which is why there tanks go rusty .if you want to replicate the finish use a mini gun and also keep you basecoat piss thin ,add thinners to your clear and use a fine tip ,i found my sata MJ 4 with either a the 1.2 or 1.0 works fine

So in other words.. I should over reduce my clear coat.. and keep the layers thin..??
Then again.. how to avoid the inevitable.. clearcoat runs??

like artspray said, kawi and most factory paint on bikes is very thin. most of the factory candies they put on fade right out in a couple few years from lack of uv protection. i have a feeling if you sand the part you will see there is indeed some orange peel in it. its just that the parts are small and mostly concaved which helps you not see the peel so much and the clear naturally lays smoother on parts like that as well.

the UV protection in the UK is superb ,its called clouds and they completly block out the UV for most of the year ,the rain pruduced also keeps those candied bikes in the garage and out of harms way 😛
