You bet utech 3.5(voc restricts 3.8  ) I use a first gen sata rp 1.4 30-33psi wide open fan and materials,75% overlap 3-4 inches away form the panel. We spray a ton of utech single stage and polybase.
Dang! With those settings and distance, you must have to really be hauling ass to keep the material off the floor!
January 25, 2013 at 10:49 pm #40602Good stuff Jayson 🙂
I like seeing peoples faces the first time they see water base applied. Some look like they’re going to have a fit at the colour difference when goes on 😆

Yes I like to paint fast satas are where its at for speed and overall atomization. The sagola could not keep up and found it very slow.January 26, 2013 at 8:19 am #40632
Like it Jay. How is the American Blue working out?
We have had it at the shop for a couple of years. It can take a bake cycle and if you unmask it reasonable soon its not bad.It can splinter off the roll like all american tape, corners not bad, tears off pretty easy.It doesn’t leave as sharp a line as pg27 but its liveable.I prefer the old norton tape from a few years ago or the original beige 3m 233,but the blue american is cheap.January 26, 2013 at 8:32 am #40634

Like it Jay. Have you tried the carworks organe tape Is pretty good stuff and cheap, don’t know about baking.January 26, 2013 at 9:01 am #40636Yeah we were given a sleeve of 3/4 and 1 1/2 inch to try,it was ok except really thin.Maybe it was old tape but it seemed to splinter quite a bit.
January 26, 2013 at 10:57 am #40637Yea is little thin but I like it like that easier to work with for me
February 2, 2013 at 7:38 pm #40960Yeah for me I dont really care much about how fast it is. Just as long as it sprays nice. I think after I use it for a while I will demo an RP to see what the difference is. If I like the RP better, it will be in my box. I have no quams about buying tools when I need them.
There are other places I need to pick up speed more than when I paint. I have always done total restos, and they are more like do it the very best possible and speed is of little concern. That will be a hard habit to break.
Jayson do you spray your clear the same way? 30-33 psi, 3-4 inches, and 75% overlap?February 2, 2013 at 8:46 pm #40961Speed has no effect on quality,if you have been taught to do it properly after repitition speed becomes natural. If you have done enough completes you will know what I am talking about when it comes to using a “slow paint gun”Spray a complete on a dodge ram with something like a GTI or an iwata lph 400 then do it with an rp and the difference in speed will be obvious.
Yes I spray clear like that all the time,I don’t really spend much time trying to set the gun up to match peel,a faster mix will do the same thing.February 2, 2013 at 9:15 pm #40962
Matching peel isn’t all that tough. Just do as Jayson advised. Couple less PSI, little faster solvent so it will not flow as much and back up an inch or two. If you want it flatter slow it down a bit, move in closer, couple more psi, more overlap and spray a bit wetter. It’s that simple.
If you try and get too much peel it better be a clean paintjob. I think they look worse if you have a panel full of flat spots and peel everywhere else.
