thanks :rock
Hello.
Every product is different, so there is no exact answer to your question. The best thing to do is get ahold of the tech sheet for your product and do as it says. There are a lot of variables that can affect the outcome, most importantly are your environment and your skill/technique.
Typically, most clears are applied as 2 coats with a 5-10 minute flash between coats. Generally the 1st being medium wet and the second coat wet. But as I said, get ahold of the tech sheet and go by what is says.
What clear coat are you using? Are you getting the results you want from your application?
im using kansai paint from japan..not sure its available at your country or not but many painter & factory in asia like honda, toyota & nissan using it. my job done very well..i 100% follow tec data sheet..can i wet sanding & buff with 2 layers clear coat? or i need more coats?
thanks
If I have to I can sand and buff after spaying 2 coats… I have tried it with about 8 different clears I have sprayed but I have never heard of the one your using…. Do you have any experience wetsanding and buffing? I have to admit when I first started about six years ago I would burn through. I havent burned a car for a very long time but it took me a while to get the hang of buffing VERY fresh paint…
Best advice If your new at it is let it cure properly before you begin the process :cheersWell I have never sprayed with an Iwata but your w400 is known to be one of the best for clearcoat so you got a good start there. I’m pretty sure the clear you are using is also very good. So next is your technique. Everybody is different. The painter I learned from taught me to spray clear fast and wet. This might sound wrong but it’s MY way and has always worked for me. I only spray 2 coats with no waiting in between coats. I start from the bottom of the car and spray a semi wet coat followed immediately by a nice wet coat. Also depends on the hardener you are using. If I use a slow hardener it will lay smoother than if I use a fast hardener. Hope this helps
thanks for your help Fisheye..yes clear im using is one of the famous clearcoat in my country. i believe everybody have a different tecnique..my tecnique is almost same with your step..im spraying fast if distance from subject is close to avoid clear run/drip
Sounds like you’re spraying too far from the object and too fast. if you’re spraying at 30psi or so, you might want to go slower and put 2 medium wet coats around 6inches far from the object. if you want to buff you car after, you should put 3 coats of clear. 2 coats can do it but 3 or 4 is better that way you have something to sand 🙂 Allow 10mins between coats or even 15mins. Not everyone is the same.
PS: practice on test panel(a messed up fender or something) before doing a car.
Hope this helps,
