So I’m a mobile painter and currently using onyx with great results but am leaning towards solvent bc solely based on price! At around half the price im seriously considering swapping out. What do u guys think. Ive only sprayed onyx so wondering how much of a learning curve it would be! Onyx has been great to me and only wanna change based on cost! Is it work it? Any response is greatly appreciated!!!

    Half price?

    Somethings not right.

You’re gonna blaze through toners faster than ever.

Some toners yes others seem about quarter off the price but definitely cheaper! Plus I can get major deals on diamont and onyx!!cheaper then local suppliers cost! So u think it would about even out and stick with onyx?

If you can get good deals on diamont then just go with their solvent.

X2 that would make the most sense if wanting solvent.

Only considering switch based on cost but if solvent takes twice as much to cover andor harder to blend/ match would about even out!? Gotta try and get a pint if common color and give it a shot. Crystal bases are same cost but other are definitely at least half price. One toner with onyx(hb175) $120 for 8 oz and diamont similar toner is $40!!!

The issue is the water toners get let down, the solvent toners are for the most part ready to reduce and spray.

i just cant imagine diamont being that much cheaper overall than onyx. maybe a little but overall i bet its only like 10%. diamont aint exactly cheap stuff. i have it in my shop and cost is right up there with the best of them.

I buy in 8oz toners and diamont runs twice to three tomes the price!!

yes however thats not really the cost difference in the end. its very difficult to compare in that way. you need to compare formula to formula as ready to spray then take into account coverage difference.

this is dead on. Case in point a Cromax Pro metallic toner is cheaper than an Autowave metallic toner, but it is not uncommon to use a quart of the Cromax toner in one mix while our takes me forever to go through a quart of am autowave metallic toner. Only true way to tell is sprayable costs and coverage.

K Jim when I get a chance ill do a formula cost and we can compare!

Ok Looked that code up in my smartrack software. Its 2 step so this is for the color. Diamont 16oz 84.86 onyx 95.74. So really only about 10% like i said.

Have u sprayed both? If so what’s the coverage difference, color match, etc. Which would u rather use?
