Anyone using the 6″ strip disc setup? Figured I’d post this setup since I hardly ever see anyone using it.
I use a 5″ Makita disc sander and 6″ Strip and Clean disc from Benchmark Abrasives to strip large areas, this in conjuntion with the roloc and shaft mounted clean and strip disc are my go to tools for most paint removal projects.

Sunchasertools sells a similar setup, but it’s a little more pricey than what I have tied up in my reconditioned Makita and generic pads.
August 13, 2009 at 12:50 am #15325ya i do i actually chuck em into my 4 inch bodygrinder takes a little work but works awsome as long as you are careful with the throttle
August 13, 2009 at 12:52 am #15326That little $50 sander turns at 4500rpm, which is dead on for those disc, pretty user friendly and fast setup IMO. Disc are about $7 each and last a good while. Doesn’t gouge into the metal at all.
August 13, 2009 at 2:32 am #15328i have a small one for stripping little areas that have decals under the clear on some bikes. for doing big stuff i have a 8″ psa backup pad that fits on my buffer. i’ll throw a 36 or 80 grit disc on it and goto town. i’ll tell you you had better be wearing a full suit when using it. makes old paint fly through the air like its snowing out!! those strip discs you are using do work good though. i might see if i can track some down to keep around the shop.
