Well your using the best clear on the market hands down.Whether your talking about Superior or the two pack version. However you set your gun up to spray the best for you is what you want. You can do anything you want with this clear! Except make it look bad. Its extremely high solds. I think its higher than any other on the market period.Except for silken Vision clear. Which is what 250 was made from,at least that’s is what i was told. Some people say 250 is 70% or high 60’s Sold content by volume. I have gotten over 2.0 mills dft with two passes with a 1.2 used as a one visit application. Most of the time i used a 1.3. Some people use a 1.4. Its funny you ask for a gun setup for this clear….i don’t think it matters. You could use a primer gun or a 10 dollar gun and i think it would look better than most. just my opinion. Awe how i miss Silkens!

I agree it is awesome clear. I’m using MPU 2 pack. Seem to get things a little to slick most times.matching texture is one of my pet peeves. Shot Hs+ for like 8 years.

Sata RP 3000 1.3 with around 33 psi wide open material and fan turned in to get it in good shape with minimal peripheral overspray. 1st coat just closed(connect the dots) second coat wet coat. Don’t mop it on just a nice thin wet closed coat then hit it with heat. Spray close and fast.

I would agree it has to be one of if not the best clears I have used.

I have been using it for 3.5 years and have to say it is pretty forgiving. You can do the coat and a half thing,2 medium coats,or 1 medium and one hammer coat or 2 hammer coats for chevelles and other things :p I really don’t have anything bad to say about it.Maybe in the summer heat it can be a little on the fast side for completes and doesn’t stay open as long as hs+,but it looks so nice!!!!I use a sata rp 1.4 wide open fan and material settings at 32 psi,3-4inches away with 75% overlap and it works for me.

I use a Sata 3000 RP (digital) with a 1.3 tip at 29psi. As Ryan said, fast and close. I tried a few other guns with Superior (Sata 4000 RP, Iwata LPH400, Iwata Supernova, Devilbiss Tekna), but I personally like the 3000 RP the best. I dial the fluid in about one full turn, and leave the fan wide-open. I get beautiful results this way, and just the right amount of peel (not TOO flat). Oh… And I like the two-pack version of Superior a little better than the 3-pack (seems to spray and lay-out nicer, especially the slow version). But they are both VERY nice clears. Hope this helps!

I’ve been using it for about 1.5 years. AS Jayson and the others have mentioned, it is super forgiving. I spray it with a 4000RP, 1.4 tip @ 32 PSI. Typically I spray1 medium coat followed by a full wet coat with a 3-5 minute flash between (normally spray @ 75 degrees). I like to let it flash about 5 minutes before baking for 25 min. at 160 (in our booth that gives us 140 metal temp).

Really easy to use, you can make it do what you want, if you are doing a really small job it will dry very fast with the spot/panel reducer and a little 250 accelerator. Baked, we are able to install parts as soon as they are cooled down.

Only negative thing I can say, is that being a polyurethane it is very hard, so polishing takes a little more effort. Our old booth is very hard to keep clean so I put a lot of extra effort to ensure clean jobs. Polishing out dust nibs is futile 🙂

KFT, A SATA RP 1.2 or 1.3 at 33 to 36 psi. First coat, thin wet and pretty, just barely connect the dots. If you want more peel, let it flash a little extra then spray the second coat for appearance. It flows a little during bake so you can leave some extra texture to allow for that. Also, if you use the faster combinations from your MPU you will get less flow and more texture.
BTW, an Iwata W400 LV2 1.3 at 35 psi is one bad a$$ clear gun also. Still my favorite.

I dont have the opportunity to use nice sikkens clears much anymore, but superior is definitly my favorite clear.
if your jobs arent looking like glass your not trying hard enough, you could dump this sh!t on with a bucket and it would still look good.
i put first coat on little lighter, close/fast with the 3000RP at around 38-40 psi and then drop pressure down to 35-37 for the second coat and slower down and pull back a bit. Has worked well for me, wish i still got to use this clear

MPU…. people actually use those? ive heard about them but never actually seen one in person.
interesting concept but I dont know how you could keep the clear/hardener from gunking up eventually

You flush it with thinner or reducer. They do work very well

    May 11, 2012 at 5:02 am #36887

how frequently are you suppost to flush it out?
