More often than I like to admit I have to do a spot repair on a real turd.I thought you guys might get a kick out of all the things that are wrong about this job, from not taking out the door handles, mirror, moldings right up to my butt match. This ones for you Jack 😉 You can also see how autowave is a different color when first sprayed,Wa994L tarnished silver looks kind of blueish until it drys, surprisingly it was a great match :p

    I see 2 problems.
    1. You took the belt moldings off
    2. You didnt paint the rocker molding first, then reinstall before painting the rest of the car

looks like you still have some work to do to get to Pro level 😉

looks good jay. i sprayed to this week with that color, whole side, and one where i had to cut off the deck lid. hey, just between us, did you have to pull the door handles open to clear behind them?

    Looks good,
I ain’t got the balls to try and spray that kind of handle on the car.

    1. Why didn’t you spray it on the shop floor
    2. Why did you bag it? Were you all out of quality masking blankets?

    Cool pics Jayson. Looks good!

Is that the yellow Norton tape you were talking about or is it 3M?

    January 30, 2011 at 9:00 pm #27843

Thanks for the kind words…but this job is what it is 😡
No Lild no opening on the handles, just spray it like it’s not there and then come back give it a quick shot on the top then bottom, seems to work.

Ryan that is the 3m yellow tape,it is awesome, similar to the green but itis not as thick and seems easier to corner and tear,I really like it.Nortons yellow tape is awful, takes longer to unmask with it,it comes off in splinters.I guess norton yellow tape is now a mid grade called performance and there tan tape is the premium…..don’t use the yellow it will kick you in the….. :deadhorse
My suppliers warehouse had 36 cases of the 3m tape and they were blowing it out at $90 bucks a case so we bought 4 cases. The inch and a half tape is 3m 2727 highland,it is pretty good, easy to tear and when you pull it off the roll it doesn’t convert itself down to quarter inch tape 👿

    Nice one.

The DeBeer stuff I use goes on like that – nothing like the right colour until it dries. Tends to give new painters a heart stopping moment or two

That’s my motto – if it’s quicker to tape, then it stays in place!

Yeah, I really like the 3M yellow stuff to. Pay under 30 a sleeve which doesn’t seem bad to me!
