Im new to painting and need a littel help with my clear gun.
    My equipment:
    Cheapo china primer gun
CAT techline 2 base gun (great finish with this bad boy, nice feel in the hand)
    Tekna copper clear gun

i only have the issue with the Tekna.
the first few passes are amazing with glass like finish, but then it appears the fan pattern changes or the material slows causing overspray conditions,
air pressure is good (tried 22/25 at the gun). the last time the gun displayed these problems i went to the test spray sheet hung on the wall and i could visually see the material only coming out on the one side of the fan, the other times the material just slowed down.
once i stop and reduce the pattern to a circle then back out to the fan its ok for a few more passes??
i have pulled everything apart cleaned cleaned, used my air gun to blow thru the air ports.
i personally think it’s a piece of something floating around…..

Any help would be much appreciated..

check to see if the air passage on the top of the cup might be clogged and the gun is choking up. Or if the air cap is dirty or fluid tip needs to be cleaned or could be the gun is assembled wrong.

Cleaning the gun is important, but it sounds like you have that covered. Check as Smooth said. What sort of cup are you running on it?

Or the other possibility is your air supply is short on volume. Your compressor may keep up (pressure wise) but you may be pulling a little too much CFM while clearing (which likely consumes more air volume compared to when you are basing and priming). What are you using for a compressor?

my compressor is a Kobalt 60 gal running on 240v, its rated at 15 CFM @90PSI. Im also using a refrigerated dryer.

I’ll double check my assembly and clean everything again.

I have just purchased the Dekups that should arrive tomorrow, i’m planning on painting (again) the hood this weekend with this setup. I used the Techline to clear a fender just for practice with no issues but when i cleared the hood with the Tekna (fighting the above issues) I see dark stripes that can sometimes been seen in just the correct lighting..??

using the 7E7 air cap with 1.3 fluid tip, currently with the standard aluminum cup.

    Thanks for the input guys!
